I recently acquired a business that included 4 domains. The domains were registered through andhosting as a reseller of enom.

I've read through enom and they claim that they can't do anything; to get ahold of the reseller. Well, the reseller is not answer tickets anymore and it seems that they are refusing to unlock my domains. Another big piece of information is that I was able to put my name and contact info into the domain.

I there any way I can force the reseller to unlock my domains? I've already got everything set up and don't need (or want after this ordeal) their hosting services.

This is completely adolescent behavior. I can't believe they are even in business.

You have your name in the whois information? Hmm... Have you tried getting the password reset? I don't suppose you can login where you logged in before to change your information and just unlock them yourself, that'd be too simple and you'd probably not be asking. If the whois information is your email address then you might try contacting them through that address and letting them know that you're the same person and that you're still unable to contact the reseller. There have been other folks who've been pretty pleased with their results after dealing with eNom in similar situations and that's what I've observed (I've never had to deal with them personally) to be the best results when the reseller isn't available.

How did you manage to get your name and contact info into your domains? 2 important things you need is 1) The Admin Contact email address should be yours and currently valid, and 2) You name should appear in the Registrant Info.

However you got your name/contact info into your domains, use the same method to change the status of your domains from LOCKED to UNLOCKED(ACTIVE). You can check their current status using whois.

Go to a new Registrar and ask to transfer (at your new Registrar) the domains to them. After the domains are unlocked, it generally takes between 5-10 days for them to appear in your new account at your new Registrar. You will generally receive 1 email from the losing registrar saying they've received the request and you don't need to reply, and 1 email from the receiving registrar asking you to confirm your acceptance of their terms and conditions. You must repond to that email. After the domains are transferred, you'll have complete control.

The admin email address is VERY important because it is where those 2 emails will be sent.

If you have access to the domains control panel or your account control panel, then you could open up a new eNom account and simply push the domains to your new eNom account, saving all the above transactions.

Thanks for the replys guys.

I understand how to initiate and follow up with the actual transfer. My problem is that the current host (not my decision to reg w/ host) allows access to everything but changing the status of the domains.

I'm at wits end here and I may be blind but, I can't see a way to actually get ahold of enom. Does anyone have a support address or something?

Thanks again,
Chris

Hello CMartin,

Here is a number to Enom's Support. We had a similar situation with some of our new clients, past providers. When we called Enom for our clients, Enom was a great help to us.

Explain to Enom what has happen with your reseller and request a E-mail be sent to you, so you can approve the unlocking of your Domain. This E-Mail will have a link in it, allowing you to approve this. Please be aware Enom will only send to the E-mail that is register with each domain. Once Enom has unlocked your Domain, put in a transfer in at a Domain Registar of your choice A.S.A.P.

Hope this information helps your current situation.

So then you could do my last suggestion and just push the domains to your new eNom account? They dont need to be unlocked to push between two enom accounts.

You could go to www.enom.com, open an account, login, open a support ticket. But I dont think they can help you vis-a-vis you and your reseller. But you never know, the squeaky wheel is the one that gets the oil.

What do you have against eNom? They're an excellent registrar, imho.

I have nothing against them at all. I just meant that I'm not transfering to them. All my domains are a godaddy and that's where I want these too. ;)

BTW. Everything seems to have worked out after talking to enom. They told me that andhosting is a reseller of moderndns who is a reseller of enom //phew

I got ahold of moderndns and they seemed to have kicked andhosting into gear.

Thanks everyone.

That's good news, for once. Well done. Did you read the thread about GoDaddy suspending 1399 domains? It should give you pause for thought :(

Off-topic: I didn't read that thread but I'd like to... I did a quick look (not as good as I probably could have) before posting but, well, do you have a link to that thread Stu? I'd love to read it. I have exactly no domains at GoDaddy and I'm pretty content with that. I've stuck it out with Tucows and Namecheap (for the most part) for a while and I've been pretty content with that. I do, on the other hand, have an important domain with registerfly... That's a whole other thread topic though. ;) It's an important domain name too - that's the worst part.
