I have a friend that has a web design company and is always being asked for web hosting. He came to me asking what I can do for him and I thought I would be able to answer everything but now that I think about it, running a web hosting company will be more difficult. I have plenty of experience with WHM and cPanel and some knowledge of linux. He says, there will be a lot of customers coming in so a reseller account is going to be probably out of the question. I told him we should probably go for a dedicated server. I'm pretty sure we are going to go with theplanet, but how do I know which system I'm going to benefit from the most. I was looking at the Total Control ones, but what should I do for backing up the hard drives? I've herd of the different types of RAID but not sure exactly how they work. I just need some straight forward answers on what I should get, not to worried about expense right now. The main things I'm worried about back up, and wanting to be able to support php/asp and all those kind of formats: do they come with linux? Billing system is another one, I currently have Clientexec which is great but I'm going to want to be able to have it so when people sign up there account is setup automaticly. Will I be able to do this with cPanel / WHm? I know I have a lot more questions but for some reason I can't think of them all. Any advice would be greatly appreciated, sorry if I rambled on. ;)

If you want to host quite alot of people on one server you will need a pretty high spec server if you want to have WHM and cPanel on it as well since they suck up alot of resources.

Also read the tutorials they are very good.

Seriously, if you are asking such a basic question as this... then web hosting is probabley not the best business for you unless you are planning to hire someone to manage your servers and your helpdesk.

:)

Start by doing a LOT of reading. These forums are a good starting place.

After several months, you will know enough to make a decision if you want to start a web hosting company.

Curious, why the OP has been disabled.
