Reading an article about Apache 2.0 and it's new implementation of User and Group per Virtual Host (http://apache.covalent.net/articles/about/user_and_group_per_virt_host.php) without having to use "suexe" as Apache 1.3 does. It all started to sound so good until I got to the very last paragraph.
This will never be the fastest MPM, because it relies on passing socket descriptors between processes, which is inherently a slow process. It would be much faster to give the server multiple IP addresses, and have different Apache installations listen to port 80 on different IPs. However, that can get very difficult to administer.
Which makes it sound like a trade-off of speed for security.

Anyone using or familiar with Apache 2.0? Looking for some first-hand experience in general and whether 2.0 is everything it's cracked up to be.

and am playing with it on a local machine here but I am not sure it is ready for prime time so I am sticking with 1.3.6 on my server till I know for sure. Why create more headaches?

I've been using 2.0 for quite a while and haven't had any problems with it other than mod_perl 2.0 still being in beta.

If you are going to switch to it just make sure any modules you require will work with it.
