I think that there should be a stipulation that the user must post the price range they are looking to pay for the services that they have requested. Too often I see posts like
500mb space
20 gb BW
all other stuff

But what they don't say is the price that they are willing to pay for the above specs. We need to have a price range for us to reply to the request, or it will be a big waste of all of our time.

Most users don't have a pre-set price they'll pay. Some do.
I think the best thing to do is to not advertise in that forum if you think it may waste your time.

In that case, often they are looking for your best price for the plan. In other words, they are telling you everything they need and asking you, "How much do you charge for this?" Then they pick a price they are comfortable with (might not be the lowest price).

Hey Dennis, I agree with you on the preset price that they are willing to pay part, but I think a ballpark figure should be added. I only feel that it is a waste of time if I e-mail someone or post an offer, and later come to find out that they are looking for the above specs for $5/month, that is more what I was getting at.

-Steven I see. In other words, after you contact them, they say something like "I was only looking for hosting in the $$ range.

You're right. That must be aggravating. But difficult to incorporate into a rule nontheless.

Yeah that is exactly what I mean. Well it won't be that hard to enforce, just every post must have a $ amount people are willing to pay. It doesn't have to be exact, just a round about ballpark figure.

just my $.02

Just to add a little to this suggestion. I contacted a member of this board today because of a request that they posted. Upon our conversation this user informed me that they were looking for an exchange and they wanted 6 months of free hosting so they could "get their feet wet". No where in their post was their any mention of an exchange. Further, I suggested that this member edit their post, as this is something that they should not omit. That is why I think that we need some sort of figure that people are willing to pay. The mods don't need to enforce it as the hosts who are reading the requests will enforce it.

just my $.02
