View Full Version : SupportTrio Help Please! Templates
Kalyse 06-13-2006, 09:30 AM Hi, I am trying to skin SupportTrio.
I am not sure if this is possible and I have been looking for documentation for ages to try and find out how to do it.
Can someone please direct me to a place where I can find information on how to change the colours and layout of the SupportTrio?
The problem is it looks awful on my site because there is a huge contrast.
www.invision-gaming.co.uk
www.invision-gaming.co.uk/support
It looks completely different
Thanks
jvandeboom 06-13-2006, 10:36 AM Simply open the /supporttrio/templates/main-template.tpl.htm for the core html template.
All of the css for the public section can be found in the /supporttrio/admin/media/default.css file.
RW-Steven 06-13-2006, 10:41 AM Im trying to get a portfolio up and running of script integrations and as i dont have a license for support trio id be happy to have a look and do this for you for free, if youd agree to be listed on my site when its completed.

Ariel74 06-13-2006, 11:32 AM Just read the Smarty Templates documentation (http://smarty.php.net/docs.php).. what you are trying is quite possible (look at mine, it's completely skinned: http://www.arielhost.com/helpdesk). Yours should be even easier because you have more room to work with (I have that left bar on my site, which makes me have to re-arrange a lot more).
Sohan 06-14-2006, 10:56 AM A nice, quick and very easy solution to this. www.kayako.com :P

Har har har. Thank you, but we already have SupportTrio and are happy with it. It is a good support desk, that works, that didn't cost us a mint, AND WE GET PROMPT SUPPORT FROM THE SOFTWARE DEVELOPERS, all unlike Kayako! So let's drop the "switch to (fill-in-the-blank)" useless replies here and now.
Now back to the topic at hand.
IMO, there is definitely a market to be had here. If someone mastered the intricacies of skinning SupportTrio, they could easily market a choice of 5 or 6 templates to ST users. I don't have the time nor inclination to learn Smarty nor how to skin yet another system (I already have several projects underway, I don't need another one) so I would happily pay $50-60 for a simple new theme.
I mean, the new ST is better than the old one, but I would still like to see it polished up some more... it doesn't have to be anything fancy, I don't get into an overly Windoze-like iconified GUI a la Kayako, but ST does need a little tweaking yet.
A designer could make up a handful of different themes, and then just sell, sell, sell them to different customers. Do the work once, sell the product over and over again to different hosts. :) I'd sure as heck buy! It'd be well worth saving the time, energy, frustration, etc. --

I just spent 20 Hours, Doings my SKin and its not even that good. It took ages to edit every file.
I edited about 50 files and so many CSS properties.
You can see the site in place here:
www.invision-gaming.co.uk/support
You can see i have moved the login, and the navigation, changed the box colors..
One problem with skinnig is that some colors are hardcoded and they are encrypted, soooo gg

Hmmm.. there's an idea... :) It's actually ridiculously easy to skin.
bithost(NET) 06-15-2006, 12:35 AM So take it and run! I don't find it ridiculously easy to skin... I find it ridiculously difficult... but this is likely due to some "mental block" I am having about it, I don't mean "ridiculously difficult" as a statement of fact. :) I just am that way about some things, I learned to accept it long ago.
You are one of those blessed individuals who could rock 'n roll with this idea. And gals like me would be eternally grateful if you would sell us the spoils of your expertise. ;)

If only I had the time to skin everyone else's helpdesk.... :) Someone could certainly learn Smarty Templates and make some money doing this though. Another area where someone could make money is with ModernBill custom skins (not just the order form, but the whole thing).
Saeven 06-15-2006, 03:00 PM If someone mastered the intricacies of skinning SupportTrio, they could easily market a choice of 5 or 6 templates to ST users.Markets based on difficulty, where competitors might make a similar task easy, is a risky proposition. If you could apply a template engine to their product then the sale of the template module you would develop would surely gain you a greater audience. People want to do this stuff themselves, or have their in-house designers do it otherwise - further, the appeal of having few such skins (perhaps due to the level of difficulty) definitely decreases the scope of branding.
Go with a module, try applying Smarty to their product or something.. It must be a hurdle though, we're seeing lots of crossover business because of the difficulties expressed.
Cheers.
