View Full Version : Prepaid Credit Card
FreeBB 06-12-2006, 03:06 PM Hello,
Does anyone know where I can purchase prepaid credit card or prepaid card to use in place of my actual credit card. I am doing this to spend online ( e.g. order form that requires credit card) without running the risk of online risk.
The prepaid card has to be accepted by order form for credit card/billing section.
If possible, I'd like to purchase this prepaid card online.
4daggers 06-12-2006, 03:12 PM And how will you pay for this pre-paid credit card online?
A better idea IMO, if you have more than one credit card, pick one and only use that one for online stuff. OR, apply for a new one and when it comes, have them lower the credit limit to just $300-$500 and only use that one.
Most credit cards provide great protection against fraud and if you only use one, it won't be that hard to get a new card or fix any problems if you suspect fraud.
4daggers 06-12-2006, 03:13 PM But to answer your original question, I know many supermarkets carry the pre-loaded American Express gift cards and stuff; you could also try visiting credit card issuer websites and explore.
FreeBB 06-12-2006, 03:14 PM I heard Walmart sells this kind of prepaid debit card. I'll stop by Walmart later to see if I can find one.
JKLIVIN 06-12-2006, 04:07 PM Walgreens in our area sells just about any pre-paid card you could think of. Valutec Card Solutions may also have what you need as well.
The VisaBuxx offering from Wachovia seems to be one with the lowest fees I could find when I was looking for my oldest son:

lehoema 06-19-2006, 12:49 AM Do you need a pre-paid credit card or a pseudo credit card number for one-time use in online transactions (fraud prevention method)?
Keep in mind that these prepaid cards have a monthly fee, a load fee (every time you load money onto the card), and limited phone support (usually they charge you for this as well).
Who's name is going to be on the card which is prepaid?
That's the odd thing, I received my card in the mail with name misspelled... They aren't tied to your credit report.
CybexHost 06-23-2006, 09:09 AM Visa Electron is another option.
minad 06-29-2006, 10:08 PM Walgreens and CVS sell green prepaid dot cards. Safeway also sells prepaid credit cards. There are many prepaid visa and mastercards available (with different fee structures). Look for the right card based on how you think you'll use the card.....and look out for cards that charge for customer service.
freebsdmike 06-29-2006, 10:49 PM I buy mine at ACE Check cashing, but then again I dunno how many of those there are around..

motytrah 07-03-2006, 12:00 PM My local bank sells pre-paid credit cards. Sometimes they ask for ID. Some times they don't. Basically, you give the teller cash, and they hand you the plastic. You can recharge them as well. They are positioned as "Gift Cards".

Green Dot is a prepaid debit card. You first put money onto the card - either at a retail location in the green dot network, like CVS or by Direct deposit.
You can then spend the amount you put onto the card. You can use it like a credit card and withdraw cash from an ATM.
