I just noticed that if you look at cpanels website you can buy Cpanel for $1650. If you pay this amount you get upgrades for two years and support for one year.

Go to http://www.cpanel.net/dist.htm to see the details!

But isn't that really:

$1650.00 / 24

= $68.75 a month

After two years your stuck with what will become an outdated control panel as they provide no updates.

For what is the equivilant of a small monthly saving, doesn't it seem better to pay monthly so you can spread the cost over two years?

I'm sure they are going to provide support and upgrade packages... they want the money to keep comming in and wont want their customers to be left hanging....

Well, they will provide support and updates for you during the two years period, but after that, they will still provide support and updates for you, but they will happily charge you for that.

If you can afford to do so, by all means do it. Just beware that this is a large (to me at least) capital investment.

Nah they have just come to the realization that the hosting controler market will become saturated as the hosting market has and they want to cash in now before its too late.

Personally I think Cpanel is crap, once you start getting lazy and bringing all of these programs to do all your work for you, you get hacked. Cpanel makes it too easy for litterally anyone to buy a rackshack box and start a hosting company with no knowledge of: system security, finance or basic business structure. The hosting business has turned into kiddies with insecure servers offering alot at dirt cheap prices. So I wouldn't bother with cpanel...something better, faster and more brilliant will come out soon, not to mention made by a company rather than a one man show.

I don't think hostgui.com is buried its still there but its just not producing. I think they started taking pre-orders before they started developing. :D

Hopefully "some other companies" software will come out and be good.

No, lets not get into that again please. We did not take pre-orders before we had a product. For more info or clarification on any of it please feel free to contact me via PM, email, or even the hostgui forums.
