Hi!

My friend has a flash-based website which was created by someone she knows. However, this person she knows left to another area and therefore can't help her with the website.

She doesn't know how to edit it and I don't know how to edit Flash-based websites.

I would prefer to not give out the name of the website out of respect of confidentiality.

Does someone have a suggestion? Is there a way to download the files to a program and edit? It'd be nice not to have to start from scratch.

Thanks in advance for any help you can provide!

Well if you have the .fla file/s you can edit it/them. If not ... you'll probably have to start all over or decompile the swf files (which is not the best idea).

hi,

well the first thing would be to learn flash..keeping an updated flash website isnt easy as there is a lot of editing and changes everyday. flash can be learnt from books or online tutorials. There are many Flash editing programs out there..one i would reccomend is Macromedia Flash because it is easy to use, user friendly, and is one of the most popular software used by many web designers.

as maiahost said, flash files are editable if they are still in ".fla" form...should should be in your case if this website has been left for your friend. however if it is in ".swf" form, decompiling is nto safe as it could corrupt the file...

yes,Just open in macromedia flash. Would advice to get someone from your contact, as it can be tricky to edit yourself with nor prior knowledge.

1) Try to find the source FLA files for that project.
2) Learn a little Flash to do the changes, or, if the changes are complicated, find somebody to do the changes.

One good reason not to build flash only sites, or not providing a html only alternative :)

Hey!

Thanks for your responses.

I suppose the intro animation (swf file) could be saved as it doesn't need to be changed. But since there doesn't seem to be any fla files unfortunately, starting over for the actual site itself may be the best idea.

This is probably far-fetched but are there any free flash programs people have developed? Macromedia Flash is so expensive! The program doesn't have to have any bells and whistles.

Thank you!!!
