would this be or not be a good idea?

if there is a simply terrific tutorial site getting more than 20,000 visitors (visitors, not hits!) a month where people go to learn web page designing and similar stuff, how much do you think it would be worth spending on such a site to advertise your hosting company?

ok... this answer to my next question below has to be an approximation from your experience:

i wish to ask experienced web hosting companies how much such a site (total 20 mb space for webpages & images) would consume as bandwidth if it had 20,000 visitors (visitors again, not hits) per month?

answers from experienced web hosts will be greatly appreciated.

The good is the quality of those visitors...perfectly targeted to your services.

The bad is that the number of unique visitors is probably much much lower. Repetition isn't all bad as it reinforces the image. However, over a period of time, you are likely getting relatively small numbers of true new visitors.

Based on the limited information given, I would place the value of the site traffic at between $100 and $200 per month.

Hmm... you're right.

OK... now if this site was to sell banner advertising and button advertising as follows:

$100 per banner per month... only your banner will remain exclusive to a specific page. no banner rotation here. when any viewers clicks that page within the contracted month, he will only see your banner.

$33 per button per month. Minimum 3 buttons on 3 different pages. With same exclusivity as above.

Banners and buttons will be from your server. So you know how many unique visitors/hits the page you are advertising on is receiving by simply viewing your logs.

Would this be a good deal?

I hate those conventional pay per click, etc. etc. programs. Very difficult to track.

It would be good to know the results of past advertisers on that site if the owner knows...if you figure out how many conversions you would need to break even, it also may help out your consideration.

From a banner adverting standpoint...
The single banner on a page seems odd. It would seem that some pages would get more traffic than others, and also have a different interest. It would be the same cost to have a banner on the front page as it would to have one on the contact page?

You may want to see the amount of traffic the page you wish to place on gets before you commit. You could compare the traffic to the amount of money you will be paying. So, if the page gets 10,000 views in a month, you would be paying $10CPM. I wouldn't say that $5CPM on the website would be unreasonable, as some sites still get that and more (usually high quality niche sites)....$10 might be pushing it.

In my experience, buttons don't produce results. I wouldn't go with that option.

You could try some of those networks that advertise on every tutorial site like bitsonthewire.com aspalliance.com and others.

Good luck
