View Full Version : Does NameCheap even have a fraud prevention team?
DarkRogue 06-10-2006, 01:46 AM Hello..
As mentioned in the topic, does NameCheap.com even have a "Fraud Prevention Team"?
My current host (crediblehost..what fun) has died and Bonnie is MIA. Unfortunately she holds my domain so I can't transfer to another host until I get it back. Problem is she registered the domain in her name. (she said it was to prevent people from spamming me... it was three years ago, I didn't know any better :() I've tried all methods of contacting her but all have failed, so per the suggestion of someone on WHT I contact Namecheap support regiarding the issue. They wanted me to fax over credentials that show me as one of the contacts lsited in the whois, but obviously since she registered it in her name, that wouldn't work.
I sent a couple emails and after a couple days support responded saying he forwarded my information over to their "Fraud Prevention Team" to investigate.
This has been a week ago, and I've sent 4 more emails since then askign for an update, but absolutely nothing.
Do they even have such a team, or are they just pulling my leg here?
I really need my domain back, but this is aggravating. At least tell us what's going on, or if you're even bothering to do anything.
Stan Marsh 06-10-2006, 03:23 AM What proof do you have that domain WAS yours? What do you expect NameCheap to do, if the domain NEVER was yours in the first place?
This is one more time I must quote you my rule #1: http://domaindiary.net/2006/05/25/never-let-your-hosting-company-to-register-your-domain/
DarkRogue 06-10-2006, 12:06 PM Yes, I know now never to do that, but this was three years ago, I was a newbie, CH had nothing but glowing reviews, and Bonnie was a WHT regular with a stellar reputation, there was absolutely no reason for me not to trust what she said back then. Obviously it is a hard lesson learned and I will register all future domains on my own, but I still need my first domain back.
As for proof, since Bonnie has decided to run and hide, all her systems are failing, her ClientExec billing system returns database errors, and all methods of contact are disconnected, full, or ignored.
I do however, have an email invoice from her billing me $8.88 for the domain darkscythe.com, and this is probably the most concrete proof I have without being able to access the billing system. I keep all email invoices and receipts, but I don't know if this would be enough for NameCheap. I asked them if they would accept it and they said they transferred me to the aforementioned team who could better assist me, yet I have received absolutely no reply from them. I could try digging for more, but I need to know what they want first.
Have you tried to gather more people in similar trouble with CredibleHost? It might increase your credentials and help with your situation greatly.
That said, whatever the turn out, I don't see how you can suggest that NameCheap doesn't have a fraud prevention team or doesn't care...
Good luck! :)
DarkRogue 06-10-2006, 06:07 PM I understand, but having gone a week and hearing not even a peep from them is sort of troubling, especially when I'm also dealing with an MIA host.
I'm not sure who else is even left at CH, since the official forums have posting disabled (both of them) the community can't interact with each other anymore.
Although domaintools.com lists 164 other sites being hosted on the server I'm on, but they're mostly church sites and they seem happy enough.
In any case, it's somewhat resolved, although not to my liking, but at least I got a response. They can't do anything because they deem it a legal matter between me and Bonnie (whom I can't contact) but I asked them to try to contact her on my behalf and they agreed. The situation is currently left pretty much the same way when it began, but at least I now have someone on a somewhat official scale trying to contact her.
Yes, we will foward your concern to the email address we have on file for her as well as attempt to contact her directly for you.
Fiesty 06-10-2006, 08:02 PM Do you feel safe faxing over your info and stuff to NameCheap?
I've been wondering, since I did the same with e-mails. Good thing it was an old statement, otherwise I would be screwed if it had my current account number on it.
DarkRogue 06-10-2006, 08:26 PM What do you mean?
Are you saying they mishandled your faxed documents incorrectly?
I wouldn't know because I didn't fax them anything. They wanted me to fax over credentials matching the info in the whois database, which I obviously can't do because I am not Bonnie MacKenzie.
On the other hand, if it was me listed, I would've probably faxed it to them. I doubt they would do anything bad with it because they are a legitimate company with a reputation to uphold.

How am I trolling? I ain't touchin' that spam button. I was asking an legitment question.
This is the ONLY username I'm using. And I don't spam half as much as the other spammers have, so leave me alone.
And I don't spam half as much as the other spammers have
So you admit to spamming? Sorry, couldn't resist that :)
Fiesty 06-11-2006, 01:09 AM So you admit to spamming? Sorry, couldn't resist that :) Why is it so funny to you?
Why did you have to ask that question? I wasn't even spamming.
Why are you even smiling.
:kaioken:
And you're not sorry, you're glad to try and anger me. right?
Well it won't work.
Genie 06-11-2006, 01:30 AM Even if you are in the right normally companies dont like to bend the rules because it will set a precedent which can cause much more harm to them. [ there is another wht member experiencing a similar dilemma with godaddy]
I would suggest you register another darkscythe domain with a different tld to continue using your site and pray for bonnie to return soon to resolve your problem.
Stan Marsh 06-11-2006, 02:10 AM NCShady >> Even your username suggest you came here to bash NameCheap. Looking at your other posts and other threads you've started to date, this is very clear.
BTW, your threatening with what happens when you get angry is simply silly.
Dave Zan 06-11-2006, 09:29 AM but I asked them to try to contact her on my behalf and they agreed. The situation is currently left pretty much the same way when it began, but at least I now have someone on a somewhat official scale trying to contact her.
That's customer service for you. Many registrars won't even do that, and they
have no "what's in it for us" reason for it.
I've been wondering, since I did the same with e-mails. Good thing it was an old statement, otherwise I would be screwed if it had my current account number on it.
Perhaps you'd like to post a separate thread detailing exactly what happened. If
you're up to it, anyway.
DarkRogue 06-11-2006, 11:19 AM lol, yes I'm not sure if they'll actually do it though.
In any case, it was another support person who responded and managed to reply within 15 minutes of every email, rather then the previous support person who took 2 days to respond. He also said it wasn't supposed to have been forwarded to the fraud team so who knows.
In any case I really hope they either manage to contact her, or run into the same problems I have, deem she's not putting true info in her whois and revoke her domains (including mine) lol.
And Genie, from previous posts about her, she won't be coming back any time soon, if at all. Even her own CH-related sites are down (billing system, ticket system) Only the front page remains. I do understand what you mean about precedent though, and I guess I have to agree, it would be bad for them in the long run. For now I guess that mistake 3 years ago is going to cost me a while.

Seriously, dude, you need to cool your jets.
You jump to conclusions too fast.
And only from first posts...I made this name out of frustration, so you hush.
Ooooo...I'm "threatening" to you, right? Wasn't my intention, loco.
I'm gonna ask for a namechange.:peace:
