I am planning to buy a RAQ server, but don't know if I have to buy a RAQ4 or a RAQ 550. I would like to see your guys opinion about it.

Also, if I have to buy the RAQ 550, wich version to take? The small version seems good enough to me, but only has 256 MB Memory.

Also, I can't access the Demo site from Cobalt, to check out the RAQ 550 Demo. Anyone else with the same problem?

I hope you guys can give me some advice.

Thnx,

Robin van Duiven

can't give you much advice considering no one has yet to touch a 550. I'd wait and see if there are any bugs and how bad they are when the 550 is released

I bet Crucial will have ram out for the cobalt. Just buy barebones raq and get ram from Crucial. You will save at least a few hundred that way.

The 550 is really great! - The user interface has really improved, and you have access to a lot more "in-depth" options directly from the GUI, instead of having to go through the shell.

Also, I've noticed that it has a really improved I/O system (or at least it has better IDE controllers, etc.). After moving stuff from one of our XTRs to an 550 the load average really was a lot lower on the 550 than it was on the XTR...

Ok, thnx for the replies all,

I will just wait till I hear more about them. But I think it will be better to buy a 550, cause it is just $300 more then the RAQ4. And it has 20 GB more HD and faster processor.

But ok, I will just wait and see.

You cannot buy the RaQ 550 from anywhere, yet. So you cannot get one now.

Some of the larger affiliates have run tests with them to see how they perform and get the bugs out.

Your mummy must be very proud :)

How long have you been testing the RaQ550?

Please let us know what ya think of it when ya got it. Like, is it easy to install, can ya put way more sites on it, is it much faster, easyer to use etc.

Easy to install and use. You can put way more sites on it (it certainly handles a lot more load) - I would expect it to handle at least the double amount of the sites than the RaQ4.

Hi Jens,

what would interest me the most are the versions of Sendmail and Apache which are on it. Sendmail-8.10.2 and Apache-1.3.20?

Regards,

Toska

Isn't it possible to upgrade sendmail to another version?
