Hey everyone, I have a prospective client that wants a website for his uniform company. They sell uniforms to schools and things of that nature. The client would like an ecommerce site so that he can sell his uniforms online. I am curious to know what you guys think is the best ecommerce solution for me. My options are:

1. cubecart
2 oscommerce
3 creloaded
4 zencart
5 agora cart

Any of those carts will do provided you've got a great designer who can whip out a super-sexy skin. Aside from the skin, most of these carts do the exact same thing.

osCommerce is quite difficult to customize. We know it from our experience. To customize osCommerce you need to learn PHP at first. Even with PHP experience there will be difficulties with integration. And very often it is difficult to support ecommerce store. For example, if you change design of your web site you need to change PHP code in the osCommerce software. So, for easy customization I suggest to use a shopping cart which integrates with your web site - when you change site design there no need to change shopping cart PHP codes.

Forget about oscommerce it has too many issues with security.

I prefer zencart or cubecart, it is very important to stay on top of security patches, with oscommerce it sometimes feels like a full-time job just patching the thing.

You can download most of the carts and install them to get a feel for their features and ease of customizing/patching.

I believe your best ecommerce solution is to buy an X-cart (or litecommerce) license or use one of these guys http://www.x-cart.com/hosting.html to do so. As your username implies, I assume you can handle the design and customization; if not X-cart can do so for you or I'm sure you can find dozens of others. Do not store credit card information or other Private Information, and use a Payment Page.
