View Full Version : What's up with racklocation?
Jonah 01-28-2001, 01:11 PM I saw some threads about racklocation.com (by tabernack) some days ago but I can't find any of them. I also tried to search but nothing came up. What happened? Im a pretty new members, please excuse my lack of knowledge of this forum.
Thank you.
webfors 01-28-2001, 01:33 PM Looks like some posts got lost while WHT transfered servers.
And I worked so hard on that thread too!! :(
Jonah 01-28-2001, 01:50 PM Okay, makes sense.
They sure have nice prices on their dedicated servers. Just don't know if I can trust them. It seems to good to be true. Whenever I see a new company and get excited about their prices I always find some hard facts (bad reviews)in a thread and decide not to go for it. I always end up with rackspace to host my upcomming business since I don't wanna take any chance with my business.
Sigh..what a boy to do....hehe!
webfors 01-28-2001, 03:13 PM They've been good so far. They seem to really care about doing things right. So far so good.
Jonah 01-28-2001, 04:07 PM Tabernack:
I think you mentioned that you have a server there. How's the speed of their servers? Do you know for a fact that they use DI's NOC?
Thank you very much!
webfors 01-28-2001, 05:41 PM Yep, the server is very fast. You can check it out by going to http://webfors.org/ripwin/
It's a 400K pic. :)
Yes, their servers are located in DI's NOC and they are very upfront about that.

One problem with RackLocation.com is that their uptime gaurantee reads
World Class Data Center
99% Uptime
on their homepage (pretty darn low IMHO), but their FAQ says:
What do I get with Racklocation dedicated service?
99.99% Site uptime guarantee
One is really low, the other unrealistically high, and the fact the numbers they run the full range makes me worry that they don't have any uptime gaurantee at all (important since a one year contract is required). But I guess they're new, so they don't know yet what they can offer realistically...
Thoughts?
webfors 01-28-2001, 11:31 PM Their uptime policy will reflect Dialtone's. Since DI is one of the best in the industry regarding uptime, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

I sent you an e-mail, but got no response...just wanted to check..
Their uptime policy will reflect Dialtone's.
Can they do this? Does this apply to the network only, or also to the server hardware? (Dialtone's uptime gaurantee at 99.9 is pretty high, and I didn't expect Racklocation with their less expensive servers to be able to match this.)
I wonder what the remedy is and over what period of time uptime is judged...

- I thought the 1 year contract only was for the 49$ deal and not the other plans?

They use pogolinux servers, which seem like excellent quality to me. Besides, I have an old P200 box that's been running without a burp for almost 2 years. Most hardware is pretty reliable nowadays, so the uptime guarantee is much more a network issue then a hardware one.
