View Full Version : A good idea, or bad?

I keep coming up with ideas for possible ventures, and I have a good feeling about my last one.

Let me try to air it for you guys, without giving it all away hopefully. Would be great to hear comments, particularily if you know any similar services.

There are already File Storage/File Servers hosting solutions by the thousands out there.
But my idea is to create a custom system for proving absolutely (99%) leech/hot-linking/bandwidth-thieft proof file hosting.

Do you recon this would be desirable for companies? Off-site hotlinking is an incredibly large problem. Often sites don't want to lock down files completely by requiring login, but they don't want to be subject to a situation where only 1 out of 100 downloads goes by their website(and thereby proving ad revenue).

I have a pretty good idea of how to provide this, mainly involving some finer mathemathics, scripts and cronjobs.
The customer would only need to have a small standard script, which I would provide of course, to utilize this system.

I dare to say that at the end of the day, most of all anti-leeching systems in use today are either arcane slow http based systems or not-so-fool-safe obscured ftp solutions.

So, do you folks recon there is a market? Is the idea a good one, or has it already been tried?

Thanks for any comments or feedback
