Ok, let me break down the initial tasks to be done. After these items
are completed, I would want to "retain" that person so they can
oversee the server each month and be on call should things go wrong.

1. Email Server setup: I want to send my newsletters out to a 50,000
and growing list every week and I want to do it through this box as
there is plenty of bandwidth. The single box in Texas currently has
about 10 sites on them, and more will be added soon, but they aren't
big bw nor space hogs so I have plenty to do this email.
Preferably no client side power is used, and that ALL processes
of sending out the email can be used by the server. The email
software should also be able to give basic stats such as how many ppl
opened the last email? Clicked through on that newsletter? ETC.

2. Logging. My current loggins system is one big chunk file that I
have to manually log into the server to get everytime I want to check
it. So that's 10 different files I have to grab and is tedious as
hell. I would like to simplify that so that I can go into ONE PLACE
and grab all the logs I need (client side software to check those logs
is something I already have) and they will be sorted accordingly. FTP
is the preferred method for me to do that, but I am open to
suggestions.

3. Server Checking. I believe I need something like Nagios or
similar to be implemented on the server so that me and my associates
that work on all of these sites are able to know if a site goes down,
or if a certain process goes down (ie: php on one site is dead,
databases failed, etc). It would be optimal if that software could
work easily on our (windows) PDAs.

4. BackUps - adequate backups need to be setup for all the sites in
case of a server crash.

5. Available - I need someone that will be available in case the
server goes down. I WILL NOT be calling you at 4:00am in the morning
to ask you to check on the server because I won't care then, either.
However, I need to be able to reach you at 3 in the afternoon if a
site goes down and it is server related to have it fixed. Time Down =
Money Lost for me. So if reliability is an issue with you, please
dont bother then.

Going forward, I will most likely be acquiring more complicated and
BIGGER sites. The person that I contract with now, should be able to
handle bigger load sites and all the complications that go with them.

Please let me know your hourly rates as well as the initial fees to take care of all of the above. It would definitely help your cause to drop knowledge on how much you know as it pertains to mass email and other server management items that I've listed.

I have just sent you an e-mail. My 2 cents... be careful when choosing an admin. I have known several people who have been "burned" ... either by a contractor who broke something, or who didn't complete a job. Looking forward to talking with you.
