View Full Version : Creating a SSL Certificate?

Hi All,

Hope someone can point me in the right direction on this.

We are hosting quite a few websites on our NT4 server, one requires an SSL connection to connect via FrontPage FTP.
This was working fine untill we changed to virtually hosting our sites, I know SSL requires a valid IP address which it now doesn't have.
I have been told I can generate my own generic SSL certificate as ourselves as the root authority for the machine it is on, this can be done on one of our other Win2k web servers.
Is this correct and how do I go about it???

Regards
Rob

You can generate your own cert, but it will throw up a warning message whenever anyone goes to your page. This is called a self-signed cert, and it will announce itself as "untrusted" to your visitors...

Thanks for the quick reply.
I guessed there'd be an error message, but I think it is only to be used for Frontpage FTPing.
Only one other problem, how do I go about creating this certificate as I know very little about IIS, am afraid I've been chucked in the deep end here.

I don't know how to do it on IIS, sorry. I run away from NT web servers since they are soooo buggy....
