View Full Version : I need a host!
Snitz 06-03-2006, 04:39 PM I was going to buy a hosting plan from 1and1.com but the problem is they have 100MB limit for the mysql database!
I need around 10to15 GB space with 300GB bandwidth
of course unlimited domains to manage coz that's my goal from 1and1.com
and a reasonable domain names prices!
can you help me out please!
DimensionServers 06-03-2006, 04:41 PM You might be interested in getting a dedicated server for something of that size. A shared hosting plan wouldnt work well for that amount of resource usage anyways, even if you could find one willing to give you that amount of space and bandwidth.
Snitz 06-03-2006, 04:44 PM I found on vodahost.com they give 12GB space with 300GB bandwidth and unlimited domains to manage for 7.95$/month
but if u check their domain names prices, u'll be like damn! it's 19.95$/domain for 2 years
that's too much!
1and1.com is simply great but the mysql limit is a turn off!
and a dedicated server is very expensive!

Just out of curiosity why do you say that? As long as the provider does not load their servers up with clients he'll be fine.....
Duport 06-03-2006, 04:45 PM I need around 10to15 GB space with 300GB bandwidth
Realistically what are you using now of this amount of disk space and bandwidth?
Snitz 06-03-2006, 04:48 PM Realistically what are you using now of this amount of disk space and bandwidth?
nothing much, I don't care about the space, I just don't wanna worry about the files I'm uploading. as I said I want to manage unlimited domains, and I use php scripts so I don't wanna worry about the space limit nor the bandwidth as well!
that's all!
I had a pretty bad experience with a forum I once made coz of bandwidth and I don't like to repeat that experience!
Duport 06-03-2006, 04:54 PM If you list a realistic usage you would more than likely not experience anything bad. Why not look for 2GB of space and 30GB of bandwidth which you can upgrade later if needed? Sound's a lot more practical to me.
MonsterMuddy 06-03-2006, 05:03 PM www.asmallorange.com
that is my host. They do not have the best plans but the support is great. You will never use that much bandwidth. Trust me. Anything that high for that low, the webhost is overselling, so you will probably get not that good of uptime
Snitz 06-03-2006, 05:03 PM Duport, a 30GB bandwidth is enough to run a big forum?
let's say if it's ok, and I agreed. where can I find it with unlimited domains to manage?
Snitz 06-03-2006, 05:08 PM I found
www.downtownhost.com/shared.html (http://www.downtownhost.com/shared.html)
I can run up to 7domains and 5GB space with 100GB bandwidth
but the domain is 15$/year :(
can u please point me out to other similar hostings?
Duport 06-03-2006, 05:23 PM Define what you mean by a large forum, how many users online and how many posts per day?
I believe a normal forum without to many add-ons you could get away with around 1000 posts per day with 30GB bandwidth (vbulletin).
Downtownhost is good but remember to search your provider before signing up! Purchase a domain from something like NameCheap.com instead of the host.
Snitz 06-03-2006, 05:32 PM I'm really not comfortable with 30GB bandwidth, I Donno it may do the job and may not!
the forum im starting is gonna be huge as far as I know, and it may not but I really hate to worry about the bandwidth lol
can u give me some other options please!
thanks
Snitz 06-03-2006, 05:36 PM I just read on http://www.duportonline.com/
Value Hosting Package: Multi-Domain Hosting
but I clicked on it, it said: 1parked domain and 1addon domain! :S
Duport 06-03-2006, 05:49 PM 1addon domain!
Yes that is multiple domain hosting, allows two websites to be fully hosted independently additional addon domains can be added by contacting us. Buy what you need with a small amount to grow and allow slight surges is my philosophy

Chachi 06-03-2006, 07:47 PM www.dreamhost.com?

You might want to read some of the more recent posts on that company before signing up. They've been having some issues lately.
Snitz 06-03-2006, 07:51 PM dreamhost was one of the options
but the setup fee is 50$, that sucks
I think I found what I really want
http://www.surfspeedy.com/shared_hosting/index.htm
Business Plan
100GB space
1500GB bandwidth
Websites / Domains Allowed: Unlimited
this is what I want exactly!
do you know anything about them, are they good?
Snitz 06-03-2006, 07:54 PM They've been having some issues lately.
I'm sorry, I just registered and the forum is huge. can you please tell me what kind of issues?
and what are your thoughts about http://www.surfspeedy.com/
thanks!
Just visit this page: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/search.php
Type in site5.
There have been many complaints about the service, but hardly any positive remarks lately, so draw your own conclusions from the posts you read.
I have no experience with surfspeedy, so I can't help you there.
DimensionServers 06-03-2006, 08:38 PM The only reason I mentioned a dedicated server is usually if you are going to be using the 300gb of bandwidth per month, then you are more than likely going to eat resources too....But again I could be wrong.

Go ahead and do a search on them here. There should be numerous threads for you to compare latest reviews, offerings, etc.
Good luck in your search!

I did a search and I read few threads

this is what I want exactly! If you wait for a couple of months the offer might be with 2000GB. Are you sure you don't want to wait? :P
My point is: buy something a lot closer to what you need, not what you want. You're likely be that much happier.

I'd avoid Vodahost. I've an account (if anyone wants it) which is as much use as a chocolate teapot. Their user support is dire, in my opinion and customer 'support' takes ages to respond. Even when it does respond, it asks you to refer to the documentation. The 'documentation' is totally inadequate and contradictory, and in many cases, plain inaccurate. Their claim that a newbie to programming can create sophisticated web sites in hours is outrageously misleading.
They claim to offer 'money back guarantee', but when I requested a refund, I was refused. Their Terms of Service document is actually illegal, as it infringes the rights of users. It is therefore null and void. It would not be upheld in a court of law because it infringes constitutional rights.
Avoid, unless you want to throw your money away.

Yeah, looks like they haven't been doing too well recently:

Strange though, uptime seems to be doing great: http://www.webhostingstuff.com/uptime/VodaHost.html
TrinityIce 08-05-2006, 12:49 PM G'day,
For webhostingstuff.com, well I wouldnt trust them too much because they give hosts with a below-par reputation a good rating!! Have been observing their site for some time. All these host reviews should not be taken seriously, they are most likely paid to give good reviews, with affiliate link included, of course.
Here , its free for all...shills and not.....and all these hosts know what goes on here is serious stuff...well my thumbs up to this forum.
Got a friend who downloaded Vodahost "free" web builder and guess what? He cant use it because any webpage he makes with that junk can only be uploaded into Vodahost run website...its useless.
Not only that, he received TONS of spam when he didnt sign up with Vodahost...because Vodahost sold his email to spammers. The spam came after he downloaded Bluevoda...
I'm totally convinced Vodahost is behind all that spam after reading the threads here concerning the owner, who apparently has a criminal record. The threads are very enlightening, to say the least.
Any host but Vodahost.....unless you want to be sorry. And NVU is light years better than their "free" web builder which is only designed to con unwary people into hosting with them.
As for me, I found an ok host after spending some time to research the hosts first...and this is one of the best places to start with.
May you find the right host...
