First i would recommend downloading WS_FTP, from download.com it is free (if you havent done so already).

Now considering you have WS_FTP
You will want to Drag & Drop files from the folder onto your computer onto the list box on WS_FTP (public_html folder), or whatever it is called on your web host.

A good page layout is something basic, yet contains a good amount of usefull content(used for site optimization). Keep away from frames, and large sized images. As you want your site to be user friends even for those people on a 56K dial up.

to center something

this is centered

I hope this is what you were looking for. :)

me being a newbie, what do you mean by "frames"? one problem that I have had with Dreamweaver is its inability to be able to "FREELY" drag images, thus I have a little white gape between images, So I make it one big image really and in dreamweaver made them image maps. Is this fine or not....Any way of getting around DW's "docking" type image moving around? Thank You

You could start by checking out the Dreamweaver manual located under the Help menu- scroll down to Using Dreamweaver. An easier way to get to the manual is to press the F1 button on your keyboard when your running Dreamweaver. :)

To create a new site (which includes setting up FTP). Go to Site --> New Site and enter all your FTP information, & etc.

Go to Site--> Open Site to open a site that you created (like Z400Central), then simply click on the connect icon to connect to ftp and upload your files.

Personally, I think that SmartFTP is a bit more user friendly. It is also free:

Ok, first, if you are going to use a program to design a web site, you need to spend some quality time with that program and learn how to do simple things like center a page (something you'll want to then unlearn quickly). Open the program, try to create a few pages with it, make mistakes, screw it up, go crazy.

Many HTML authoring programs seem to have a build in upload portion of the program, where you'd enter in server info and it takes care of things, to a degree. Again, read the manual or help file, that's why it is there, in case you need help or don't know how to do something.

I can't tell you if Dreamweaver has an FTP like program built in but maybe someone can confirm this.

Yes indeed-e. Dreamweaver has a built in ftp program. It's pretty nice and easy to work with. ;)
