View Full Version : joker.com hijacked my domain

Ladies and gentlemen,

Once upon a time I was a happy joker customer. I registered my domain, made a few changes here and there and enjoyed their fairly attentive support; a few years ago they were the cheapest game in town. However, their inflexibility with changing the domain owner name and address has led me to try to change my registrar two years later and they have effectively hijacked my domain -- and their support is quite useless now.

It was nearing renewal time, about a month in advance, and I tried to transfer my domain. The process did not work for my domain, so I shot off a support request; no reply. I found their old system for domains within the CORE system. Great; looked like it was going to work, but didn't. Time flies, and their useless support starts firing off canned emails that are completely irrelevant and tell me "there is no other process". What is this crap?

So, time flies. Domain expires and they still have a stranglehold on my domain. They don't reply to any of my support inquiries and when they do it is the same canned email. I've sent my request to anyone at the company that I can find an email address for and the only reply I get is from their postmaster telling me how to use support! And that one isn't a canned response!

So, these bastards have my domain and won't give it up. I have extensive business contacts in Germany and I have no problem dragging them through the mud, however that is not practical yet -- get me a little more infuriated and I'll be singing a different tune. At the same time, I am tempted to screw them the way they screwed me -- renew, transfer and request a chargeback.

Joker, putting the JOKE in joker.com.

Anyway, I've heard of lots of other similar dealings with this useless organization, so any suggestions?

What first attracted you to Joker.com in the first place? I'd like to know their marketing angle that got you in.

To transfer away from Joker, you first have to go into Joker and authorize the transfer away. Once you have done that, you can trigger the incoming transfer request from your new Registrar. You have to authorize the transfer email, and then it generally works fine.

It does sometimes take two to three tries to make the timing work. Be careful of using a Registrar who charges you for failed transfer attempts. I believe the one recommended earlier in this thread does that. You may end up paying for the failed transfer two or three times before it actually goes through.

We get regular transfer requests from Joker customers trying to be former Joker customers. CORE does not approve of their current practices, but really can't do anything to stop them since they are not in violation of any agreements.

It is possible to transfer out - it just takes timing and patience. If you get the timing wrong, you have to wait until the request times out at Joker and start the whole thing over again.

Good luck,

-t
