View Full Version : I'm having trouble finding hosting
phr0ze 06-01-2006, 09:43 PM I'm having trouble finding hosting that meets my strict needs.
They are:
Reliability.
ASP.NET
SQL Server
Unlimited Domain Alias
DNS Aliased
unlimited Email addresses at any domain alias.
Pop3 and Webmail
Regular backups of files and database
10GB Storage or better
40GB Xfer or better
$40 or less
I actually only use one hosting account and database and feed all my clients to the one web site. DotNetNuke then decides which site to use based on the domain alias. My existing host has all the features I need except for reliability.
Thanks. This is my first time here and I need to get setup on a new host fast because my old host is unreachable. Please help.

If you take how much storage you want down a notch, you should be able to find a reliable Windows web hosting company for your budget.
phr0ze 06-01-2006, 10:43 PM I'd be willing to work with the storage and bandwidth. My only concern is the rates some companies charge to increase the storage/bandwidth. The numbers were the allotments I had with the old company. I had another reseller company prior to this one with the same pricing, but they weren't so friendly about the email addresses for the domain aliases.
I've been searching all day for a new host and I'm not doing so well. Plenty of ways to find lists of hosts out there, but no way to trust what is good or not. And on top of that, I usually find they have a limit on domain aliases or don't offer SQL Server, etc.
Techark 06-02-2006, 01:07 AM OK lets see you have the same packege now with two different host and both have turned out to be not so good, yet you do not want to increase your budget or pay extra for things like domian aliases or SQLserver.
See a patteren yet?
phr0ze 06-02-2006, 01:18 AM I see the pattern, and actually the first one wasn't bad. The first one was Resellerchoice. But the features were very limited.
In actuality, Most of the sites I have are my own. Sites I play with or have plans for but I never actually do anything with them. The whole thing fits in a couple hundred meg of space and uses very little bandwidth. I don't expect that to change soon either. For this reason, I am trying to avoid spending more. However I do like to be able to advertise certain storage/bandwidth allotments in case I get someone to sign up. So I need a hosting package that allows me to advertise numbers at certain levels even if it's never used. This way I am not making any promises I can not keep and I am not lying to potential clients.
Sorry it's long winded. If you have a suggested hosts which costs more or doesn't fit my storage/bandwidth requirements, please let me know. I only need one or two SQL Server databases for the whole thing and I only need one or two CP accounts. So in some ways I may be less demanding than others.
I am currently looking into weberz and jodo
premium20 06-02-2006, 02:36 AM Searching for a good host takes time. And the best way is not to trust any list, but get the names and then do reviews at WHT.
You won't be deceived if you do your research on the forum, and I am sure that the hosts you are talking about - weberz and Jodohost, both have a lot many reviews on here.
Thanks

I think that as a general rule, you willfind that the more reliable hosts are the ones that limit things. Even though you indicated you "probably" would use the resources you are looking for, many customers would - especially in the reseller hosting space.
In your position, I would consider finding a provider (like your first one) - that is reliable and has the space/bandwith you actually need for your budget. You can then easily upgrade as you acquire customers and need more resources.
RipJaw 06-04-2006, 05:04 PM I'm very much happy with Weberz.com ... Great customer support and so far no down time what so ever. I'v only been with them for about a month now and just upgraded my account. Very happy so far and would recommend them to others. I was with 1and1 before this ... most likely the worst experiance I've ever had.

That’s correct,
The reason why we limit bandwidth and other resources is just that. It allows us to better manage our allocated resources and keep our servers from getting overloaded.
This allows us to maintain a high uptime and reliably that our reseller hosting customers demand.
alvinks 08-25-2006, 12:26 PM You should check out jodohost.com as they have very close to what you want and the best thing about them is they have real 24/7 support (I use their livechat at all crazy hours) and the one time I had to use their backup (I lost everything including the sql database) they had it back up in less then an hour.
