I have a serve in my house in which i host my site on. I would like to host some friends site but i have a question.

How do i make a web sign up so that it would make:

1)virtualhost
2)email account
3)ftp account
4) mysql account

I know people have their programers to make a program to do this but is there any free software or anything like that i can download or test out?

Im running linux.

(sorry i posted in the wrong forum the first time)

Don't worry about it, we are all newbie at some point in our lives.

What you are referring to is a control panel. You can browse the hosting software forum archive to learn more. Some of them are commercial, others are free.

If you don't need to give your clients(aka friends) access, webmin is probably the best. (www.webmin.com).

Otherwise, currently there aren't too many great free panels.

A list to get your search started.

free:
webmin
webcp

paid:
plesk
ensim

As for the web sign up, you need to first decide on a control panel, and then try to interface with it by programming (or there may be scripts already available, though mostly paid).

Why not get a control panel of your choice (Webmin is fine as long as you alone want full control and don't need to give the other people on the server access to a control panel for their site) and just make a webpage with an email form on it for your friends to fill in and set it up by hand. I say this as I haven't seen any free scripts like the one you want.

If you want a payed control panel, Ensim would be the cheapest at the moment, at least untill they raise their prices back to normal level (which would be when they release LS 3.1 I would think).

I was talking about Control Panel in general, not CPanel. In fact, I purposely did not mention CPanel, since I don't think its applicable to your situation.

CPanel costs $99/month usually, which is why I didn't recommend it in the first place. (I didn't think you would spend $99 on a CP just to host a few friends).

You need to find a distributor and sign up for a license, then you can run CPanel on your server.
