Where to get one is the question? Which and why? Some are $50, some are $99, how come?
Also, we will need it so we can have https://anything.ourdomain.com
Sorta like, a *.domain.com ssl cert --> does anyone konw what these are called? We need it so we can use it on any subdomain for that domain
Can anyone recommend a good place. We have apache compiled our selves. So i'm going to need a place that can help me with the httpd.conf incase I mess up, or atleast have some good detailed instructions on perhaps an EXAMPLE, or something.
can anyone help?

What you are looking for is a wildcard cert.
These are not cheap.
GeoTrust sells theirs for $500, and does not offer it through their reseller channel, so discounts are not available.
SSL certs have different prices due to a number of different features. Some offer "protection" or insurance associated with the encryption being hacked. Some validate the company that owns the website. Some simply turn on the lock icon on your browser with varying levels of browser recognition.

If you are on your own server and have a main IP that all your name based sites go on secure that IP and name with a cert then your customers can use https://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/~theirdomain/ to access a secure area of their site. OR you can also set up a secure site on your server and give them subdomains under it.
I have both on my server. Then I recomend that they get their own cert, if the yreally want to make sure there are no pop ups, RackShack has the quick SSL going for $49.00 again so grab a couple of those while you can.

QuickSSL certs work well and are priced to sell.
I don't know how Rackshack call sell them for $49 though. That's significantly less than my wholesale cost - even at volume discounts. I might have to start selling through Rackshack! Gotta call GeoTrust on this one :).
There is a new cert out, Instant SSL that retails for $49. Their's is a slightly more complicated cert to install since it uses nested CAs, but it also seems to be gaining market share.
These two certs do nothing to guarantee that your website business is actually who you say you are, but they do provide the lock icon and secure your traffic with 128 bit encryption.
Both GeoTrust and Tucows/OpenSRS (via Entrust) sell competatively priced certs that also validate your business identity. There are many resellers of all of these certificate products out there.
