payquake 06-01-2006, 11:01 AM do you also have a use based bank account? this will typically be required in order to obtain a US Based merchant account.
crislem 06-01-2006, 06:52 PM do you also have a use based bank account? this will typically be required in order to obtain a US Based merchant account. This is the part that I know is tricky: to have a bank account in the US without being in the US... I hope you can find a company that can help you with that, or a bank that is able to create one for you (but as far as I know, they stopped doing that after September 11). I know there has been another thread about it on this forum and I know that other people had problems at this stage of the process... I wish you best of luck with it and try talking to the company that empresasdehosting recommended.
etechsupport2 06-02-2006, 08:43 AM I think you should have US Social Security Number with US based business checking account to receive payment for transactions.

He has an EIN, so he doesn't need a social security number (nor can he get one without living here). A SS # is just for individuals, EIN's are for businesses. He will need a US bank account though.
Corey Bryant 06-03-2006, 05:32 PM You have to have a United States bank account, a United States address, and United States phone number.
The last I checked, CDG is unable to support international merchants. The only United States merchant account provider that I know of that will support you if you have at least the above is Cardservice International (http://www.cardservice.com/) due to the regulations etc.
With them, you will have a discount rate usually of around 4% and they will request a 5-day ACH holding for an international merchant.
SoftDux 06-04-2006, 06:00 PM Can anyone recommend a company, in ANY country, which could give us a merchant account, that'd work with say Autorize.net / Worldpay / etc? We're based in South Africa, and not eveb paypal works here.
neonerd25 06-04-2006, 08:59 PM Way too much fraud comes from Africa. There arent any known merchant accounts that can use a traditional merchant account with the mentioned payment gateways.
Worldpay isnt actually a payment gateway. Its a 3rd party payment processor so you might be able to use them... I think they allow higher risk and international accounts.
SoftDux 06-05-2006, 06:39 AM We're in South Africa. Africa is a different country. It's like saying you're from the USA if you're in Columbia / Mexico - It's not the same.
Anyway, worldpay doesn't operate in this country.
And I'm getting tired of hearing "you operate in a high fruad country"....
etechsupport2 06-05-2006, 07:41 AM Its mostly due to South Africa's regulatory environment as it has still exchange control possibly that is the reason most of the payment processor avoid to involve in. Regardless to say people unnecessary put together Nigeria with south Africa that is the reason it is highlighted as a high fraud country.
SniperDevil 06-05-2006, 11:10 PM If you live outside of the United States, you might be best partnering with someone in the United States. Not only will this allow you to obtain a merchant and other credit-involved accounts, but it will allow you easier market penetration in a huge market. There are bound to be plenty of willing American businesspeople with whom to partner. Or, just move here. :D
AcuNett 06-05-2006, 11:28 PM If they will accept you , I would recommend cdgcommerce.com

And unfortunately, you have a lot of fraud coming from your country - that is why it is difficult. It is just like someone wanting to set up a a website for gambling. They might not have any chargebacks, but due to their industry, it is high risk
SoftDux 06-06-2006, 04:54 PM :bawling:
I had a look @ Cardservices, but they are not supported by Modernbill / Clientexec
Corey Bryant 06-06-2006, 05:01 PM Cardservice is the MAP (merchant accoun provider). It would be the gateway that you would use. Cardservice is compatible with LinkPoint / YourPay, Verisign's Payflow, Authorizenet.com, Yahoo Payment Gateway.
If those programs you mentioned are compatible with those gateways - then you should be fine.
SoftDux 06-06-2006, 05:48 PM Aah, ok. That helps :)
I didn't know that, since I'm not a US citizen - Will defenatelly look into it then!
Corey Bryant 06-06-2006, 06:03 PM Good luck with everything. Keep in mind with Cardservice, they will transfer you to an agent. A lot of them are unfamiliar with international accounts, but just tell them that Cardservice can support them.
You are probably looking at about 4% discount rate, with a 5-day ACH hold and $10,000 a month limit. You will need a United States address, United States phone number, and United States bank account in the very least
Jedito 06-06-2006, 07:39 PM take a look to Wells Fargo too, they may provide you a merchant account and authorizeNet gateway.
papputalk 06-07-2006, 04:26 PM i do have U.S postal address, U.S telephone numbers, U.S bank account.....
Cardservice is asking me for U.S driving license which i dont have.
CDG is asking for U.S driving license and says applicant must be U.S citizen.
Worldpay isnt actually a payment gateway. Its a 3rd party payment processor so you might be able to use them...
If you actually sign up with WorldPay, you get an acutal merchant account to conduct business.
SoftDux 06-08-2006, 07:14 PM This seems to be more difficult than trying to get a cow to produce yogurt.
We don't setup accounts for business outside of the US in order for you to setup an account with Cardservice International your business will
need to be based in US
Worldpay doesn't opperate in our country either :(
Anyone from Australia perhaps? I know someone there, but they don't know how to get a merchant. Has anyone opened a merchant account in Australia, maybe you could tell me what todo to get an account
cdgcommerce 06-09-2006, 08:14 PM Thanks for the mention, empresasdehosting, but unfortunately here at CDGcommerce we are not able to underwrite any non-U.S. merchants at this time.
Visa and MasterCard have very stringent territorial standards for U.S.-based merchant processors so that by itself precludes most U.S. processors from working with any international merchants and even those that do have a U.S. entity don't always pass a sponsoring bank's interpretation of the Patriot Act requirements. (As you already found out, a Driver's License is one of the best tools to validate entity and aid with other aspects of the underwriting process.)
Keep in mind that it is actually a Card Association rule that any merchant who establishes a U.S. merchant account must operate their business in the U.S. as well as following other criteria. From time to time, I have seen other processors "push the envelope" with this but in most cases that isn't really being done within the true guidelines of the Card Associations.
