Dear Group,
I am a little uncertain about what software can be used for free on a dedicated server hosting commercial web sites.

Majordomo - is it okay for commercial sites? Is there a free alternative if it is not? I need mailing lists/announcement lists.

PHpBB - is it okay to use this bulletin board program on commercial sites or if not, is there a free alternative?

I am not opposed to contributing to such software after the sites are up and running and if they make money. I hate to bleed money up front, however.
Are there any other free software programs a newbie starting up a dedicated server should know about?
Thanks,
Bradley

phpBB is free... what do you mean by free alternatives...? There are other free forums out there, although phpBB seems to be among the best if not the best free one.

Majordomo...? Well, are you using sendmail on your server or perhaps qmail...? ezmlm comes to mind, if you're using qmail.

xmbforum is pretty good... and there is a built-in installer in CPanel4... www.xmbforum.com

I like Majordomo, and yes,,, it can handle it.

No problems with phpBB. It's Open Source under the GPL license.
