Did anyone notice that all the control panel software seems to need RedHat Linux? I have yet to find one that will work on other linux distros...
I may be wrong in saying this, if I am please prove me wrong.

Plesk works great on FreeBSD, I have used it on both and actually prefer the freebsd flavor

My bad, I can't think of any off the top of my head but if you search the forum you will probably find 1 or 2. Red Hat is the Linux Distro of choice for several reasons.
It comes from a very successful company with plenty of money to keep improving and devloping the OS as well as support it.
Up2date ensures your server has the latest security fixes.
There is plenty more reasons, search the forum and you will find a lot on this topic.

Actually there are several other Linux distribution whose quality match or exceed RedHat's. The reason RedHat is more popular is probably the chicken and egg problem. Control panel developers target RedHat because it is the most widely used distribution in datacenter and hosting companies, while the hosting companies uses RedHat because most control panels supports it. It creates bigger market share for RedHat.
Hopefully, this chicken and egg problem will be solved with Linux Standard Base and the playing field will be level once again.

I'm sure you can get Plesk to work on Debian. Why couldn't you? There aren't that many things different when it comes to install a control panel. If you give it a try, i'm sure it will wok, unless Plesk has some strict rules about directory structures that only follows Redhat.

No one said you couldn't, it is just not supported, I have even installed plesk on lindows, lol. It should work on almost any linux system with some tweaking and editing some config files.
