View Full Version : in-complete forms, what do you do?
TopDog07 05-27-2002, 02:44 AM Just recieved an order that was placed, except that only half of it was filled out. (just the name and email, no billing, contact or account options selected). What you (those who are hosting) do in a case like this? Thanks :)
AhmedF 05-27-2002, 03:33 AM Try emailing them back and asking if they need any help.
On a side issue ... shouldnt you have an order script that at least asks for all details before emailing u/submitting?
TopDog07 05-27-2002, 04:32 AM Thanks for the reply. : Yes, we do for name/email/ and some other options, but I have yet to edit it where all fields are required.
Techark 05-27-2002, 04:36 AM is email them and ask if they had problems submiting the order and if they need help.
Then change your script to verify the submission before allowing submit or you will get lots of trash emails.

Servstra-Sales 05-27-2002, 04:54 AM Our order form won't submit the order details to the database unless all required fields are completed. This helps cut down on 'dummy orders' received.
vgnosal 05-27-2002, 09:24 AM speaking of dummy orders..people still put like johnbilly@hotmail.com and put like fake streets etc..just for the fun of it..and to see if it works or something..that must be agravating..
okihost 05-27-2002, 10:42 AM I usually check out there IP and if everything looks to be valid(email addy) then I email them and explain to them that we noticed they did not fully sign up and let them know if there is anything we can do in assisting them to email/call us.

We get loads of half orders like that each week where people are just testing the system, they take it all the way to the credit card screen then leave the order, with obviously fake details in it.
TopDog07 05-27-2002, 05:26 PM I don't know what people gets out of sending fake and/or incomplete orders.
Servstra-Sales 05-27-2002, 06:02 PM We also block all anonymous email addresses such as hotmail, yahoo and so forth. This also reduces the number of fake orders. Unfortunately, some fake orders still get through, but you just hope it's a small number of them.
vgnosal 05-28-2002, 03:36 PM I dont know about blocking hotmail, yahoo..some people actually have them as primary email addy...
Servstra-Sales 05-28-2002, 05:49 PM My past experience shows that 99% of fraudulent orders come with an anonymous email address. Which is why we encourage people to use either their work/school email address or the one that came with their ISP account. They can always change the email address at a later date, but during the signup process, it must not be an anonymous email address.
NexDog 05-28-2002, 06:26 PM Yea, blocking Yahoo, Hotmail and MSN is just foolhardy.:stickout
TopDog07 05-28-2002, 06:31 PM I an did use yahoo email address for a one or two years, and that was all I had in terms of an email address :) So not all or bad, but I do understand the point of doing it. If it becomes too bad we will start. :bawling:
KDAWebServices 05-28-2002, 06:37 PM The best way to block fraudulant orders is to take a quick look at each order as it comes in, within 10-20s of looking at an order I can (with 99.9% certainty) tell if it is fraudulant or not. If I believe it is fraudulant then I will email the person who made the order and ask for a couple of other pieces of information, one that they will usually only know if they have the card in their hand (the cvv2) and the other that they will only know if they are the card holder (The bank details for the bank that issued the card).
If after that we believe it is a fraudulant order the details will go on my list for the day of cards to be reported to our merchant, who will then follow it up.
TopDog07 05-28-2002, 07:59 PM Thanks for the information KDA :) I appreciate the replies.
KDAWebServices 05-28-2002, 08:06 PM Hi,
Not a problem, we know how iritating fraudulant orders can be, we've had quite a lot lately. I think 20s spent on manually checking each order is time well spent, prevention is much better than cure as they say - especially when it comes to getting chargebacks.
