I have an idea of how to modify something to make it better...has anyone out there ever filed a patent or know how to do it? Can you patent the idea or do you have to create a prototype? I had an MIS ethics class in my MBA program and it seems that it would fall under intellectual property?

Would love to hear anyone's experience(s).

Oh, and in case you ask - it might be something like a toaster except instead of toasting bread, it toasts hotdogs...

Haaa.. just kidding... but, I wonder if there is a patent on that!???? That could be worth a gazillion bucks!
