1. How do all the hosts have scripts to find out if a domain is registered or not? How does that work? I am good with PHP, but I'd like to know how to program one of these for my site.

2. If I were going to make a free services site, such as a site to make free quizes/polls, etc, and wanted to use ads for revenue, where would I start? What kind of services would I need to put ads on my pages and be paid per click or other method?

2) Best rethink your business model. Advertising has gone in the tank and revenues are almost nil. Sites everywhere are trying to transisiton to pay or value-added services.
