View Full Version : Of Mice and Men
clocker1996 05-26-2002, 06:21 PM I have to re-write the last chapter in Of Mice and Men (The book)
If you have read this book, and have any ideas as to what i could change, or whatever, reply to this thread.
In the end lennie dies becuase george shoots him, becuase he didnt want him to be tortured etc, he put lennie out of his own misery.
so if you've read it, help me out, give me some ideas.
It can be rewritten however i want it.
TheException 05-26-2002, 06:47 PM Anyone want to finish my English course for me while they are at it?
Sorry I haven't read of mice and men...
You could try sparknotes.com.. I think they have a lot of stuff...
I had to rewrite the last chapter of "The Old Man and the Sea" for a class once. I had a plane drop a bomb on the old man. But I wrote it in the style of Hemingway so I got an A+ :D
Not a whole lot of choices for Lenny, though. He can attack George, or the mob gets him. He can escape and meet an untimely fate.
So you can have George threaten to take the rabbits away, and that totally breaks Lenny. Say it ain't so, George! Say it ain't so!
richy 05-26-2002, 08:55 PM umm ok, lennie n george admit their animosity is just a cover for their deep rooted love for each other and run off to start a kitten farm and wear leather pants and tube tops. the gay love affair no one saw coming ;)
AcuNett 05-26-2002, 09:58 PM Sounds like a 9th grade summer reading project
IGobyTerry 05-26-2002, 10:59 PM Wow seems like English classes around the world read the same boring stories. Actually Of Mice and Men wasn't too bad compared to, To Kill a Mocking Bird, or Julius Caesar. I absolutely hated those stories, along with the Mythology ones. The one book I especially liked, I can't remember the name of it now. It was based on the French Revolution with Sydney Carton and all those other guys. Ah shoot what was called... grr this is gonna bother me and I'm not gonna end this message until I remember it.... Got it... Tale of Two Cities.

I hated that - staying up late to write some paper on Lord of the Flies...damn you high school!
Anyways, why not just take the simple approach that everyone will take. Lenny and George run off and live of the 'fat of the land' and live happily ever after. Either that or some big gunbattle involving a lot of violence and death.
Dogma 05-26-2002, 11:52 PM Try focusing on one of the many themes that run throughout the book. Could you bring some of the minor characters back (the cool black guy for example, can't remember his name). Could one of them have come to kill Lennie with the same motives George did? Can the cool old guy have a get away vehicle? Could they just run away and begin anew a cycle that keeps on repeating itself? Could Lennie be so full of grieve that he takes his life? Could cops have found him from his previous incident and got him?
I don't know if that will help, I hope it does.
BTW To Kill a Mocking Bird and Julius Caesar are both wonderful pieces of literature if you spend a little time actually understanding them.
You could have an unexpected ending like Curley's wife didn't actually die and George didn't kill Lennie. You can change it to when Curley found Lennie hiding, he took aim with is shotgun but was shot by his wife. And George and Lennie got their dream of living off the fat of the land.
Fiber 05-27-2002, 01:23 AM Rewrite it so they are venturing down in the countryside and see a NOC. They go into it, get jobs as server admin's and get electrocuted. Ok - so that may not be a "great" idea, I've got 5 days of school left but my mind has turned off as far as education goes about three weeks ago.
I still however want to read the book once more. I read it a year ago (to the date) and I want to read it again.

Maybe let Curley's other hand get crushed :D
I kind of enjoyed Of mice and men when I read it awhile ago... Good ending..
mdrussell 05-28-2002, 02:57 PM It's a while since I read it, but I thought the original ending was good.
How about getting George and Lennie to run away together, find this stretch of land and buy it... so Lennie can feed the rabbits?
Optimism never hurts... ;)

good ending? wtf lol
it was sad =/
ADEhost 05-28-2002, 05:34 PM Why not lenny die in his sleep, and have george accused of murder, the last scene would be george taken away in handcuffs while cluching a dead mouse.
