Hello,

I have been watching this domain that is suppose to have expired on May 15th, 2006. It is registered through GoDaddy.com. However, when I try to register it, it still says that it is taken.

Whois Report shows this:

Registered through: GoDaddy.com, Inc. (http://www.godaddy.com)
Domain Name: ---------- .com
Created on: 15-May-05
Expires on: 15-May-06
Last Updated on: 23-May-05

Any idea why I can't register this, since it is past the expiration date?

Contrary to what many people expect or believe, a domain name will not become
available for re-registration after it expires. It follows a "process" the Registry and
the registrar have set in place.

If the name's that important and urgent to you, I suggest you read Go Daddy's
legal fine prints (specifically their deletion policy) and read what they'll do with it.
In this case, they'll give it about 12-14 days (I forgot how long) for its owner to
renew it before checking their TDNAM service to see if anyone's made a backorder
for it.

You can check exact drop date here: http://freewho.com/checker/

Also, please read an excellent article by Stu about domain backordering, in Domain name tutorial forum here.

Good luck!
