I just wanted to post my experience with our current host, HostSave. I'm a strictly volunteer for my church website and I only do websites as my own hobby am in no way professional (you could tell if you saw the sight, haaaa). My profession is in the investment banking area.

Anyway - I took over building our site in early February since the original person left the church. He had already setup the account at HostSave and I think it has been there for at least a year.

I have had no problems with HostSave. I have recently decided to move hosts due to the lack of MySQL or any Database ability at HostSave. They are unix and running Apache, so I emailed support and asked them if they were planning on adding DB_file or MySQL anytime in the future and they would never respond. I was askiing because I wanted to install IkonBoard on our site and use MySQL.

I've emailed both the sales area and support area several times and no response.

As far as server down time, I haven't noticed any since early February... at least there hasn't been as far as I am aware. So, that hasn't been an issue.

So, really if I hadn't seen the need for some type of database management, I would probably not even move our site.

Well, sorry for the length... just wanted to post my experience in case anyone else was thinking of them. I'd love to hear anyone else who has been with them. I wonder if any of their staff ever frequent WHT? I stumbled on WHT last week by doing a Google search for "hosts".

Thanks all,

Before I was in the hosting business I had a big bulletin board on a hostsave account using UBB.
Most hosts would have complained but hostsave never said anything about it, so you might actually be able to use a flatfile database perl type BBS on Hostsave

Good point.... I'm currently using a flatfile board... Scarecrow. But, have been wanting to switch over to Ikonboard. I just like the features better.

I do like PhpBB and like vBulletin even more... don't have the money for vBulletin though ;)

But, you make a good point. HostSave hasn't once complained about my current board.... I've never heard from them. Which could be good or bad depending on your viewpoint ;)

They run Sun hardware and its all very robust.
They also don't monitor accounts unless they start causing problems so chances are they will never notice!!!

I imagine that 90% of the sites they host don't even use cgi
so they muist have lots of processing capacity.
