View Full Version : Where do you get your website graphics?
righthost06 05-24-2006, 12:52 AM I am in the process of designing a website for a hosting company I have planned. I see all of these other small hosting companies that have nice pictures of servers and other graphics, my question is, where do they get them. I have looked all over the internet and cannot find any. And they dont' look like pictures that they just walked into a room and took a snapshot and loaded to their computer...
Thanks.
cartika-andrew 05-24-2006, 01:28 AM Hello righthost - most of the companies you see around here have purchased templates and modify them for their own requirements.
We have all of our design done in house - certainly not as "pretty" as some, but definately unique - which is hard to find in this business..
Best advise I can give you is do your own, or hire and independant to do your graphics - unique is good :)
righthost06 05-24-2006, 01:33 AM I can do the design of my website, I just need some graphics of servers. Like for instance on your website, CartikaHosting, you have a picture of the guy, where did you get that from, you have the picture of it looks like 3 servers and a screen sitting in front, that picture is on the Dedicated Servers thing. I am wondering if there is a place I should look to get graphics to put into my website. I have found like clipart that you can use for free, but they look very crappy and unprofessional.

righthost06 05-24-2006, 01:38 AM Thanks that's what I was looking for. Never heard of stock photography but I know what it is now. Great and thanks for the help.
dollar 05-24-2006, 01:39 AM Glad to help, there's quite a few stock providers out there but the two I listed are the ones I use most often. SXC is great for some things, but their selection is limited. When I can't get something at SXC IStockPhoto almost always has it.

I will never tell :)

Well, I will ask my designer about that - but, from what I know *smile* - almost all of our graphics are made from a combination of stock photos readily available (commercially or freely) with a healthy combination of graphical uniqueness provided by our designers. I honestly don't know much about graphics, but, apparently a good designer can work wonders with stock phots and photoshop :D

Now, be nice - stock photos along with healthy manipulation from those with the appropriate skillset right?

My appologies ;) I didn't mean to insinuate that you guys just grabbed a handful of stock pictures and tossed them up on the website as I feel your design is very well done. The person in question however comes off as just a piece of stock photography with the background erased as far as I can see ;)

LOL - no fear - I honestly dont lay much credit in design (unless of course you are a design company) - I have always felt that as long as its professional, and unique, that is 90% of the battle - nothing personal taken, I assure you :)

May not be far from the truth - but, there is a twist on that photo that we do not need to discuss, nor is it relavent :D

Sometimes the best pictures are of your own hardware or staff :) On one of our websites the main picture on the landing page is of one of our racks. If that is not possible for you then I'd suggest visiting one of the many stock photography (http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=stock+photography&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8) websites and purchasing the rights to some images. Remember not to take the first image you see. This would open you up to having the same image(s) as a whole bunch of other companies which will put a dent in your site's uniqueness.
If you get some stock images and are looking for a company that performs graphic manipulation (and all other fields of web design) very well, I'd suggest contacting Equentity (http://www.equentity.com). :)

Unless that's me at a funeral or a wedding, you won't ever see me in a suit. :D

Not all of em. For instance you can have templated sites/images (the ones that look like others) or you can have unique. Unique is goood ;)
