But then why is WHM more popular ? shockuk 05-22-2006, 02:21 PM It's a seriously bad idea to be "cheap" when starting a web hosting company, but i'm sure you know what you're doing so i'll cut the speech. The nicest (and most stable) free control panel out there is (in my opinion), http://www.vhcs.net - however I would highly recommend it's ran on Debian, iv'e noticed problems on other operating systems / distros. I see direct admin has much more features than WHM. But then why is WHM more popular ? DirectAdmin is a fantastic control panel, stable and fast, and ofcourse fairly cheap. On the other hand, DA is fairly new"ish" and CPanel/WHM is the big "old-man" of the control panel market. CPanel has built a brand name, and a following, many clients choose CPanel simply because "they've heard of it", or it is what they're used to (and usually haven't tried anything else).
