Hi all,
I was looking for a host here a while ago and got a reply to my quote from a company called Elitehosts (www.elitehosts.com).

I'll admit that I'd never heard of them before as they were pretty new. To get to the point, they are the best host I've ever used! :D

Tech support answers within the hour and the answers and informative and helpful. When I signed up, I got 15 days free trial, with no obligation and they even installed ImageMagick for me, which I was in desperate need of at the time.

I'll be honest and say that in the beginning, there were two 6 hour periods of downtime, but I have no reason to believe that they were the companies fault. Since then, InternetSeer has reported 100% uptime and I've not noticed any slow servers, poor connections to ftp or anything negative at all.

I just thought I'd recommend them to anyone thinking of starting out or even well-hardened designers. I haven't tried the dedicated servers from them yet, but I most certainly will!

If this sounds like spam, I'm sorry, but I just had to share my experience with you guys. At last I've found a host that is helpful and above all, RELIABLE!

10/10 to Elitehosts! :D

hmm, looks suspicious to me.
they have a so called " pay once " plan, with a setup fee of $100, and then you get free hosting for the rest of your life.
that doesn't sound right.
Only pay $100 once and never pay again?

I agree that the $100 deal seems a little TOO good to be true, but I couldn't comment as I haven't tried it.

I just signed up for the standard shared hosting and that is what I based my post on. :D

Unlimited bandwidth doesn't sound right either.

Glad to hear you have had a good experience and hope that you continue to, post back in a few months and share your thoughts on the host.

no offense but im the suspicous type:) i did a search on your username, as i tend to do to check out people complimenting or complaining, if they have only a few posts. anyways you passed ;) obviously genuine, but the point of my post is

http://www.webhostingtalk.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43620

you mention 28 hours of downtime i think, not two 6 hour peroids and something about mysql. just wondered what really went on.

Hi! Just to make clear, the "unlimited bandwidth" was refering to a signature in a previous post, not a pricing plan at elitehosts.com

Anyway, the $100 does appear to be a little too good to be true - but hey, there is a 15 day free trial, you don't even give your credit card # at the order form. And if you still doubt it, you can try one of the monthly plans. I understand the doubts, it's just a little something to help bring in some extra sales

LOL, the plot thickens. Richy should be a private investigator --- KMx's post on 4/6/02 does say "I have a feeling that I'm going to pack up my databases and code and get another host.", now its a recommendation. Fun! :D

Well, if they turned their client around from "I have a feeling that I'm going to pack up my databases and code and get another host." to "If this sounds like spam, I'm sorry, but I just had to share my experience with you guys. When I posted about that 28 hour period, my site was relatively young (ie, a couple of days old) and I was VERY annoyed at getting any downtime at all.

It turns out that the downtime wasn't anything to do with Elitehosts. My old ISP (thankfully I've now moved...:) ) decided that NO! Mr Barnes....connections to external POP accounts are not allowed and that NO! Mr Barnes...you can only connect to sites that we want you to and NO! Mr Barnes, FTP connections to servers other than ours are not allowed and finally NO! Mr Barnes...we actually haven't approved your site, so you can't visit it.

Needless to say, the ISP died and has been reborn as http://www.24-7freecall.com

They seem to have relaxed a little in their new guise, by all accounts.

As for the 24 hours of MySQL downtime, that was due to me designing and coding my scripts on my local machine, uploading and forgetting to change the flamin' server address, username and password so it pointed at my Elitehosts.com server.

Yes, I am a dufus and yes, I shouldn't have blamed Elitehosts for those problems. I completely forgot that I posted my "complaints" to WHT. If I'd have remembered, I would have popped back here and edited. Just goes to show what a couple of misguided comments can do for a hosts credibility. Sorry Elitehosts!

There WERE however, 2x 6 hours of genuine downtime which occurred when I signed up, and that's what I was referring to in my original post.

Sorry for the confusion, all!

;)

The one time payment plan IS a good business model provided it is implemented in an intelligent way, and you don't go too low on the price. We have been running a successful company for almost three years now on this model and have achieved a great success. Admittedly though, our one time fee is more than $100.

Just don't knock it before you try it guys. ;)
