I am sadly disappointed in the world of Dedicated Hosting.

A Host I use for server space, and also my friend who used them for his site, well were greatly pissed off and also upset.

I want to post a little warning about these hosts, there owned by the same person.

Just today, I was browsing the forums of the site and I go to the Admin Area, and what do I see? My host’s nickname their, So Immediately I screen capped it and contacted the Admin of the site. (Note we are a very large 3D community), We were very angry about this.

He is very unprofessional, and very immature, I am saddened that someone would hack a VB Database to get access to the Admin area.

He has violated the UK Data Protection act and he doesn't have a VAT Business License, I would steer away from him. He says that his dedicated servers are all linked together, although he contradicts himself by saying their on separate networks and different data centers.

He didn't relinquish the ADMIN Panel or ROOT Passwords to us the owners of the server, yet he keeps them because we can reset all the other servers via the ENSIM Control Panel. So in fact we were paying 90 bucks a month for

2gb HDD.
100gb Bandwidth. And we didn’t have the ability to add our other domains he had to do it.

Allenviron.Com and Ugforums.com are very bad; and today I have lost all hope with companies like that, I don't want to start a flame war between anyone, but I'm sorry I had to express my disappointment.

We were greatly saddened in the invasion of privacy that was taken today, I'm sure all of you wouldn't like your host hacking your DB to get onto YOUR forums.

Or setting up other sites just incase the other server he owns goes down without your permission or discounting.

Ratings:

Customer Service; BAD - Blames the users for having a php script in VB that crashes the server and ruins it forcing him to get another one?.

Billing / Price: Not so bad.

I hope you all listen to my warnings, thanks.

Cypher asked me to post my view of the story here. Here it goes:

I can support this claim. I did various coding projects for the "friend" who cypher is talking about and in the last weeks he always had problems with his host. The last thing I saw was a web site his host has put up, documenting exactly how he got himself admin rights and also showing the private thread where cypher's friend is talking about changing servers because he is unsatisfied with the services of the host.

So practically the host got himself admin rights on the forum using his root priviledges, checked out the threads which are intended for admins only and uppon noticing that the friend of cypher is about to switch hosts he just suspended his domain name, claiming that the friend of cypher should have told him that he is about to change hosts.

That's the story. I think it's pretty unprofessional and also not excactly legal.

cheers

As a moderator on that site, I'm seething over what he did. That's INTOLLERABLE. Frankly, I think the bastard ought to be shut down. He should certainly be reported to the relevant government authorities.

Dedicated, but I think he's already got someone. The point though, is that this **** should not be allowed to happen. We need to make sure this bastard never gets another client again. I'd also like it greatly if he lost all the clients he has now too. ;-)
