View Full Version : Domain deletion?

Hello,

I e-mailed my registrar and asked them to delete two domain names. My intention was for them to be deleted for another party to register if they so choose.

Instead, it looks as if they "sold" it to another ISP, which I believe is related to them. There is now a sedo parking page stating the owner has the domains on sale for $100 each.

I don't want to name the registrar just yet until they respond to my e-mail asking why they did it.

I suppose this is "legal", because I relinquished the domains, but I also asked for them to be deleted, and now they stand to profit off of me.

Also, I'm slightly concerned because I used their contact form which doesn't actually verify any account information, and they just did it without asking for verifying information such as the address on file, or anything.

I'm not really upset...I'm more curious...and let's be honest...if they're going to make money off of my sites when I asked them to delete it, then I'm slighly miffed.

What are your thoughts?

A lot of companies will now sell off deleted or expired domains. I don't really agree with it, but I guess if a domain is deleted/left to expire, the perious owner has no say over it any more.

I feel it's a bit opportunist, personally. I don't think any professional registrar should take part in this.

Well, I do agree with that, but it's a different matter when the domain is still under my registration and as the owner I ask for it to be deleted.

Now, if it were expired, then I really would have no say, that's correct.

I don't feel any professional registrar should do this either, but at the same time, I have close to 70 domains registered with them..so it could be as much as $490 to transfer them all out.

I'm also concerned with the lack of verification, but hey..who am I to complain..I'm just a customer who's bought over 300 domains with them...

Just a note...they removed the DNS so it doesn't resolve..it's still in a holding account until it expires, as they state that domains can't be deleted totally. I thought they could, but at least it doesn't resolve.

So, situation handled. Good on them!
