It's sleek, it's cool, it's in development.

I like the idea, but the thing is, nothing works exactly right. A control panel should eliminate most of the need to touch IIS manually, but many if not most hosting tasks still require interaction with IIS if you are using dotnetpanel. Add-ons like AWStats are a pain. Subdomains - a pain. MySQL - a pain.

The long and short of it is, it needs much more development. I'm sure one day 1-2 years from now after much more development the dotnetpark guys will get dotnetpanel working as it should

I'm switching to Helm.

Dear abbynormal1,

We thank you for your feedback and pointing out these imperfections. Would you be so kind to provide more information on this problem? For example, what does "a pain" mean exactly?

Thank you for your cooperation.

A pain basically means that the tasks within the control panel don't function correctly and very often give errors.

In addition, the software version requirements of DNP (.Net 2.0, etc) aren't very flexible and can cause conflicts with other commonly used aps.

The imperfections are abundently clear by visiting the dotnetpanel support forums, which I should have paid closer attention to before running it on our servers.

I would really clasify DNP as a beta software. Don't get me wrong - I like the idea, and I think it's going places - I just don't think it's there yet.

Dear abbynormal1,

Thank you for sharing your impressions regarding DotNetPanel.

Actually you did not try the panel yourself, but took a look at our forums and made up your conclusions. You've mentioned that DNP seems like a buggy software through our support forums, because there are many errors reported by our customers. Hmmm... Let's use your logistic method at ModernBill (billing solutions leader) forums. Just search MB support forums for the "error" word and the results will be around 500 pages (!) with the customers complaints. You can say "ModernBill seems like the BUG itself. I would really clasify ModernBill as a beta software."

However, you didn't mention that all of those DotNetPanel "errors" you've seen have been fixed already or are in progress. And we fix the bugs as soon as possible. And we always fulfill our promises (unlike some of our competitors). Moreover, our support forum is not just a blether,it is a tool that allows DNP to meet our policy: satisfy each customer with our services & products. Also if you take into consideration that we add new features monthly, have a confident tech support and open-to-customer approach, and you'll have truly objective impression regarding DNP.

We all know what does "beta software" mean: buggy, unstable, raw software product - no one will buy it, agreed? It's not our case. We have a lot of customers and partners and fast growing community. Also we are going to release DotNetPanel portal source codes shortly.

P.S. If you'll try DNP, we'll do our best to satisfy you with our services & products.

P.P.S. Perl, mySQL, AWStats couldn't give more flexibility than they can and conflicts you've mentioned are results of these applications misconfiguration rather than DNP platform.

Wrong, I did try it.

Wrong again, conclusions based on experience with panel, not on your forums. The volume of errors in your forums aren't what I'm referring to. It's the type of "needs development" problems in your forums I'm talking about. Modernbill certainly has its bugs, but the vast majority of the software works as intended.

Lots of people buy untested and newish software. So, no, I don't agree that nobody will buy it. I did. This is simply meant as a review to others to let them know that while I appreciate the work thus far on DotNetPanel, in my humble opinion, it needs much more.

Please take a look at http://forum.dotnetpanel.com/forums/thread/1435.aspx It should be interesting for you. Especially regarding subdomains and MySQL pain ;)

Add-ons like AWStats are a pain.

Also take a look at http://forum.dotnetpanel.com/forums/post/1253.aspx It is a unique solution! Our panel works fine with AWStats and even improves it!
