Any comment or advise on other e-commerce provider is welcome. thnx darkstorm 05-18-2006, 01:23 AM Depends on your needs, if you setup OScommerce and find that you dont need any other functionality i'd say stick with that. Plus you can find more "modules" on the contrib page of Oscommerce bluedreamer 05-18-2006, 12:12 PM You should first make a list of everything you need the software to do What cart features you need What payment methods you need Can you understand how to use it ... and most importantly use a cart system that has decent developer support! SuperHostUsa 05-18-2006, 05:07 PM Never heard of ZenCart but but I know that osCommerce is very poplar and it is free. I would go with osCommerce if I were you. lrnr 05-19-2006, 01:21 PM Hello, Zen-Cart is a very popular fork off OSCommerce. Since I am making a decision on a cart myself, I am leaning towards Zen-Cart, instead of OSC. It seems to me Zen-Cart is updated a lot more often (security holes are patched a lot more quickly). OSCommerce does have a lot of modules by contributors. If it has all the features you want, go with Zen-Cart. Hi, I am surprised you haven't heard of it, since you are a hoster. Zen-Cart is now offered through CPanel's Fantastico, and maybe other control panel developers. Regards, Learner alex-developer 05-19-2006, 04:45 PM The Zen-Cart easy to maintain & better the GUI compare to osCommerce. But the osCommerce faster and easy to edit the source. Both of them have a lot of modules. ian_r 05-19-2006, 07:38 PM i have about 5 project based at oscommerce and about 10 jobs done for my customer and its really good choice...for ecommerce edu4vision 05-20-2006, 12:08 PM Zen cart. Use it myself & I'm really satisfied with the performance. There are several add ons & modules available free at the community forum, but if the functionality you are looking for is not there, there are a few affordable programmers around to help you code one for your zencart. lrnr 05-20-2006, 01:11 PM The Zen-Cart easy to maintain & better the GUI compare to osCommerce. But the osCommerce faster and easy to edit the source. Both of them have a lot of modules. As far as speed, is it generally agreed that OSC is faster than Zen-Cart? That is one thing I really don't want: a slow shopping cart. Thanks! easierhosting 05-20-2006, 02:20 PM I have to say osCommerce has to be the best. It has a huge community of people putting contribs all the time. It also has all the features people may need, even though it does take some time to get use to. Im using OSC at the moment for quite a few clients and its really easy to template and works great from the users side as well as from the clients side. And the best thing.............its free :D! Ow and ive not had any complaints from any clients using it! SiteGround 06-09-2006, 09:52 AM I usually hear that Zen cart is better for newbies, while osCommerce offers more functionalities. -Dan 06-09-2006, 09:56 AM Zen Cart and Cre Loaded is based on the OSCommerce. What I read is that Zen Cart is better security and Cre Loaded is much feature than OS Commerce. But still both of them based on OScommerce. zyk0 06-10-2006, 01:17 PM CRE Loaded looks so much better than Zen Cart. :) alex-developer 06-11-2006, 03:47 AM CRE Loaded looks so much better than Zen Cart. :) Personally I didn't notice any difference in design with OScommerce, only calendar has been added. chris963 06-13-2006, 08:20 AM Zen cart is really not the best ... expecially if you want to create a real commercial website that needs to run 24/7 and needs to be secure against hackers ;) osCommerce is really good ... the only problem is it's opensource, so if you need support because something went wrong, you will have to write it down in the forum an wait for an answer ... if you choose x-cart, you will have the best shopping cart software, and you will get support, the bad thing is you will have to pay for it. so use osCommerce or x-cart, but please don't use zen ;) desk2web 06-13-2006, 08:30 AM I'd go with osCommerce - good forum for support and assistance, excellent collection of "add-ons" via user created contributions. Easy to template, easy to use. Remember to make sure you get SSL on your site though no matter what solution you go with. shazer7 06-13-2006, 05:40 PM I have been a long time support of Zen Cart but left for one reason. The checkout process is to long( to much steps), plus customers have to create account an account to purchase. Festus2005 06-13-2006, 05:59 PM Zen Cart is a fork of osCommerce but has improved security. So if Zen Cart won't work for you, neither will osCommerce. Those that post osCommerce is good for a "real commercial webiste" and Zen Cart isn't are blowing smoke out their butt. In reality a "real commercial website" should be looking at "real commercial solutions". FluffyTigger 06-13-2006, 09:12 PM ZenCart need CPU availability and server more optimized. But once it is then ZenCart is good to go. It's querries heavy, but the developers are trying to decrease that in the next few releases, and it is a very very active project with a lot of people working on the core. When was the last time osCommerce came out with a new major version? MBH_NET 06-16-2006, 03:31 PM I use cubecart. It best. Festus2005 06-16-2006, 04:44 PM I use cubecart. It best. o rly? susio1 06-16-2006, 09:48 PM Im testing CS-Cart, many features, maybe a alternative for you. ButterApple 06-21-2006, 06:28 PM I tried to use osCommerce but end using cubecart software as lot easy to set up. |
