Hi Everyone:

Im trying to build a website for my health & fitness business.

What this website will do is allow me to make programs specifically designed to what people want to accomplish in there workouts and dieting.

What I will need is specific information from a client to get started on developing there program, my site will not be a 10 second download or cookie cutter program from a magazine or article. They will be made to exactly what that person wants to achieve.

I started making my website with frontpage 2003, but its allitte chunky for my experiance level.

Can anyone lead me in the right direction in getting my project off to the right start.

Should I stick with frontpage or move on?

I would like to have control over my website so I can make changes when I want to. I also want to be able to grow as quickly as my project needs me to.

Thanks, Eric

Oddly enough, there's a discussion about FP happening in another thread only a few down from this one :)

Building a Web site is very much like any other technical area of expertise. If you have a professional level of knowledge, you can do a professional job on your own. If you don't, the tools you are using in place of that knowledge will not make up for it, and it is extremely unlikely the end result will be professional. And the mark of a professional site (http://www.iwdn.net/showthread.php?p=32480#post32480) is not just how it looks. The look is important, but pales in comparison to the importance of how it is constructed and whether it meets your business needs.

FrontPage is just an HTML Editor. It sound to me like you want to provide dynamic interaction with your users and for that you will need to utilize some form of scripting launguage, PHP, CGI, ASP etc...

If your comfortable with FrontPage than keep on using it, but it does not do scripting or application programming.

I would suggest to look around the web and see how others are doing what you want and then try to copy what they are doing. This way you can keep the things you like and get rid of the things you don't.

There are many resources for learning scripting for the web. Just do some searching.

So you're looking to make some sort of customised "course" for your clients to follow - the details of which are dependant on how they answer the initial questionnaire?

If so then JBelthoff is correct in saying it would best be a dynamic scripted application that runs off a databse.

I don't know of any off the shelf scripts that you could base your site on so I'm guessing it would have to be made specially for you.

Huge shortcut would be to have someone from rentacoder.com do all this for you for $65. Presto...:)

To tell you the truth - you couldn't do anything better but to hire a professional for your business site. It's an investment that, if and only if done well, will provide sufficient ROI and help grow your business. A bad site can hinder what is/was a good idea.

And as far as Frontpage goes.... don't get me started. lol
