View Full Version : How are these resellers? Recommendations?
steven01 05-15-2006, 04:53 PM I am really glad I found this board, I was about to switch to a reseller that people were really unhappy with here. Can someone help me out with my search for a reseller host? Here are my specs needed.
4-8GB Space
75+ GB transfer
A few IPs would be great, or cheap to add would work.
WHM/CPANEL
Reliable. I am hosting some mission critical sites.
Good service is a must.
Budget is $20-$35 a month, and I'm willing to prepay a year.
From my research here I have found a couple that look decent: JaguarPC, and Axishost. Are these good choices, are there others I should consider?
Thanks,
Steven
The only thing I'm going to tell you, is that host with the provider of your choice for a few months before prepaying for a year.
I've seen alot of people here pay for a year, then come back a month or two later complaining about the host and lost money.
steven01 05-15-2006, 08:07 PM Hi, Thanks for the suggestions and welcome so far. To be more specifc though, I am not looking for clustering right now. And I am looking for a US based host.
It takes a wise man to run a hosting server whether it is critical or not. It doesn't matter what kind of control panel you use, server specifications or clustered servers if you do not monitor the way your server run.
It is really on personal choice. I was able to run an AMD XP 2400 without over 1.0 load and has 200+ sites in the server but in another server, I have P4 3.2HT which has 100+ sites only... What is the difference? Ah... many, many, many....
There are many things you can do in the server to make it more stable and reliable, using this or that, and you just do not stop from there...
To go back to OP's topic, look at what is your really concern for this critical sites and see if those providers can support it.
Try to contact them and ask questions, with those list, they are a good host already.
And, welcome to WHT.

If you're hosting mission critical sites, then you need to raise your budget much higher than $20/mth. You can't host mission critical sites with 8GB disk space and 75GB data transfer, for a grand total of $20/mth. Not going to happen.

Checkout budgetreseller.com as well..
Robhosting,
Please submit your domain with resellerspanel.com here: http://www.webhostingtalk.com/report.php?p=3870231
You can't recommend a host if you do not use them.
Thanks.
steven01 05-16-2006, 11:47 AM This is pretty frustrating. Everytime I find a possible candidate, after researching it seems they have nothing but problems. I realize that every company has disgruntled customers that tend to make a lot of noise, but is there any consensus on a really good reseller host on this board?
RackFleet 05-16-2006, 11:53 AM Steven,
Some good resources for you to look at would be:
HostSearch.com
HostingCatalog.com (Part of the iNet Interactive Network)
And of course, the WHT Offers section.
There really is no general host that all will agree on to be a reliable host, even with the big name providers, you will find GOOD and BAD reviews. The best advice I can tell give is to find a host that best meets your needs, then test out their services, call them up, talk to them on live chat, and exercise your money back guarantee, if needed.
Best of luck! Be sure to write a review on the company that you choose.

Like you said yourself, every host seems to have negative points. You need to realise that regardless of which host you choose, it is likely at some point or other, you will experience a problem. However, how the host handles the problem and maintains it will be its shining point..
Hosts that have regular ongoing problems - that is unacceptable
For mission critical sites, your budget is much too low. If they are important, then the customers should have no problem paying extra to ensure good uptime..
Basically, all you can do is continue to ask for help here, and research other companies as well. Ask the support desk some questions maybe and get to know the company before using them..
Unless you have 100% confident in that company and it's absolutely necessary, don't pay yearly...
Jedito 05-16-2006, 11:56 AM Try to cheak some unbiased "hosting directory", mostly of them are paid per possition, this mean, host pay to be the #1 no matter if it have horrible reviews everywhere.
As far as I know, whreviews.com is the only. It may be another, but I don't know them.
steven01 05-16-2006, 12:03 PM Thanks for the continued advice guys. I will check out those other sources.
As far as my mission critical statement, I suppose my sites aren't any more "mission critical" than anyone else's. It's just that they are making some money, and couple of them are fairly popular, so I hate it when there is any downtime. There are several resellers that fit my needs and budget of $35/mo. Looking at hostgator now.
Oh, and one other requirement I forgot, I need SSH or jailed shell access.
