Hi,

I've had a server with ACSDatanet, but my account has now been transferred to **************.com (http://**************.com). Does anyone know anything about them? Are they reliable? How about their tech support? What's their network connection? Is it fast?

I would appreciate any feedback you might have. I'm trying to decide if I'll continue with them or if should find a new provider.

Thanks.

I would imagine they really suck considering their name is banned on the board :D

Whoa! I see that my post has been censured. I assume that's because the company that I inquired about has some sort of problem. What's up with them? Why are they banned?

I'll do a search on the forum, but I'd still appreciate any comments.

Lol, curiousity kills the cat :). If they're censored, you probably dont even have to do a search on them, i mean lets face it, i can be mean on WHT sometimes, so can everyone else, but VERY few people ever get banned/censored, you have to spam forums, spam people, or do some REALLY nasty stuff to get banned/censored like that, i've every confidence in the moderators that whomever these people are, they earned it :).

Abu,

You're heading down the same path I did. I started with acscrapper.net, then went on to another host with similar problems. Sooner or later, you'll end up at Rackspace and never have to worry about switching again. I've cut my xanix intake in half since the move. :D After two moves, you'll start to realize why hosts like Rackspace charge what they do.

I don't know who the censored host is, but would love to know who it is if you find out.

When I first got the email from ACSDatanet telling me that my account was purchased by another company I breathed a sigh of relief figuring that I was taken care of. Then when I posted my request for info here and saw that the name was censured I soiled my Jockey shorts. Man, just goes from bad to worse.

I don't know if I'm allowed to post the name in some other form here so that you guys will know who I'm talking about. I'll PM or email the name to whoever want to know.

Chicken, if you're out there... Can I post the name here with spaces or other characters so that everyone knows who I'm asking about. I really want to know if I can stick with them a while.

Thanks for the pm, Abu. I've never heard of them so I can't tell ya much about them. Personally I only know of one host I could personally reccommend.

Question for anyone,....

Do some hosts start up only hoping they can sell their contracts to someone else down the road? It seems like a good idea. Get the clients...then sell them for two years of what their contracts are worth. You get the money and get rid of the headaches. I use my dedicated server for personal use, so I don't know if this is common practice. I've just seen a lot of buying and selling lately.

BURSTNET ? lol just post this see if its them;) What's wrong with Burstnet? They're on my shortlist right now. I've been pestering them a lot with different technical questions concerning my requirements and they've responded politely and promptly. Hopefully they'll continue this way after I sign up with them.

I'm currently considering Nocster (Burstnet) and FDCServers. Petr from FDCServers has also been great with his replies. As I understand, the Nocster plan (managed) will take care of my monitoring and backup needs so Nocster is currently the frontrunner. However, it seems to be a close call.

Rackshack is also on my shortlist since they seem to have some good deals, but I'm not sure I want to really "be on my own". After my last server experience, I'm ready to have a little hand holding.

Not to make you think any less of FDCservers (I have had a server with them for 4 months and am very happy with them in all aspects and I recently prepayed for 6 months because I am so happy with their services), but NOCSTER does offer $20 a month CPANEL licences and is multi-homed, so if you wanted to use the server to run webhosting, NOCSTER may just be that little bit more suitable.

I would still highly recommend FDCservers to anybody though, as I have no idea what the NOCSTER service is like and I will not comment on it. Another thing that highly speaks for FDCservers is that their hardware upgrade prices are all one time fees (and the prices they charge are very competitive), unlike NOCSTER, where they charge a setup fee and monthly fees for hardware upgrades.

Tazzman,

Yeah, this is a tough call. I really like both companies, and most comments on these forums about them seem fairly complimentary.

So far, the big advantage for Nocster is the server monitoring and the weekly backups. I wasn't planning on going into the hosting business, but I was thinking of locally offering value added services including hosting. The CP/WHM combo would certainly help with this.

One question... What do you mean by multi-homed? Are you referring to the network connections?

I've been very impressed with FDCServers and Petr. Prompt and to-the-point responses. Their plans are really good deals. The main thing missing is the monitoring and the backups. I'm not sure how I would be able to handle this by myself.

As I said this is a tough call. I'll agonize over this some more and I'll eventually have to decide on one or the other. However I decide, I'm pretty sure I'll be happy. I'm also sure that I'll feel bad about not going with the "other" host.

Anyhow, thanks again Tazzman (and everyone else) for your comments. Greatly appreciated. It's great to be able to get help making tough decisions like this.

About 5 hours ago I sent a query to the tech support of my new server provider. Still no answer (their web site advertisers 24/7 support). I guess I now know why the name is censored. *sigh*
