As Per a request by "Locutus" at phpManager.
We have come to an agreement to settle this matter inside the phpManager forums.

What do you think windows does when it first connects to the internet?
It generally sends your name, serial number and IP to MS... Its to help prevent piracy...
Same with the above info being sent, it will not allow someone in by that info.... Its to help them prevent multiple copies of their software from being installed.....
Large software like vBulletin have call backs.... Its generally accepted...

That information isn't that personal...atleast it's not sending passwords and stuff.
It's probably a piracy prevention tool that phpmanager is using.

it's a license call back, don't freak out
for every single client and admin login? not just from initial setup.. but every login from the time it is installed unitl the time it is uninstalled.

it makes sence considering at the point of login and during use is the only time the software is active, so thats where I'd put it but I wouldn't put it in the client page because you could have 100+ clients using that software and thats alot of emails being sent. If nothing else I'd have it in the admin page simply because the admin has to login at some point. Having it in the client page kinda seems like overkill if you ask me.
I can agree with that. And even a monthly passback.. but not every login from our clients.

You know if ya don't like it...
Take it out... I don't see where it says you have to leave the code as is and you can't alter it...

Perhaps the code is there for you to change to your own email address? I've seen some packages that have this type of alert. The script comes with their info but it's expected to put in your own. I agree, I don't see what's stopping you from changing it or even deleting that code.
If I'm not wrong, vBulletin has this too in their script.

not.. the software resides on my server.. this is not a callback.. this is just an hidden email from my admin account username, to thier listed email, telling them the root path to the script, the script name, the ip number, and the domain it was used on.
it however does nothing else to passback data saying it is an apporved script.
this is why i think it needs to be knowm by the users of phpManager that the scripts is loging this info.

Hi,
Chicken: Please ignore my PM I sent you.
Just to clarify things with everyone, this is NOT a security risk or a breach of privacy (we already know the details being sent, so why would it?). We do not see the email. It is piped direct to our database and is verified with the details stored on the database. If the details do not exist, the script is automatically deactivated (hence the need to know the path to the script).
If you require anymore information about this, please email me.
Regards,
Locutus
