Got youre attention didnt I :)

Anyways... I'm now on a dialup, and for me to gain access to the Internet, I have to proxy off another computer oin my network that has Windows 98. Since this proxy only supports HTTP and HTTPS, I cannot seem to join chatrooms, check pop email, sign on to MSN, etc.

My problem... I want full access to the internet, pop, smtp, http, https, msn messenger, port 6774, etc.

More problems... The machine I'm proxied off of has Win98 and I cannot put win2k on it. Win98 has an internet sharing program which I have used in the past successfully on cable internet, but when I install it onto the gatway computer, it cannot connect to the Internet, and the internet connection sharing program "ICS setup" program will not run on win2k... So thats out.

I cannot intall the ISP's disk onto my computer, because it just wont install (BTW Im Administrator).

So I can either kick off the people on the gateway computer so I can run MSN, check pop email, etc, or say the heck with the other goodies such as MSN messenger. Or I can find a new program to allow the gateway computer to fully share the internet connection. Does anyone have a good suggestion of one they know of...

Requirements
Win98 and win2k - Ultra important
***FREE*** - Ultra important
Not Spyware - Ultra important
Not a Trojan - Ultra important
Allows sharing of all Internet ports so I can run my programs! - Ultra important.

Thanks in advance...

ICS should allow you to connect to the internet with a cable modem.

Just wondering why did you ever switch back to dialup?

You can always get a hub, switch, or a dsl router.

Try 'Proxy' from http://www.analogx.com. I've used it for a year or so at home and work and it does what you want. It worked on my home system until I installed IIS on the win2k gateway machine a few weeks ago. I haven't taken the time yet to figure out why it stopped working.

*smacks foreherad really >>REALLY<< hard*

I forgot all about AnalogX proxy. AnalogX has some very useful yet simple utilities. I just love "Say It".

AcuNett, It ICS worked while I was on cable, but I needed to expand as I got more computers on the network, so I used a hub, bought another hub, then bought a Router. Then AT&T decides to cut us off and refuses any payment. When Mediaone had it, it was great. As soon as AT&T got their grubby hands on it Customer Service went to crap, service went to crap, etc. Since AT&T is the only high-speed internet here besides Earthlink (which AT&T will not allow DSL on their phone lines). Because of money issues and personal issues, dialup is our only other alternative. We could get satellite, but we dont have $600. So now I'm on dialup, but the "ICS diskette" will not run on my computer (which is running win2k. Upon running the exe on the diskette, I get this error "ICS is intended only for windows 95 or Windows 98." I cannot install win2k on the machine that is serving as the gateway...

I'll try AnaglogX proxy and give yall a holler if it works... :)

Why don't you just go buy a $20.00 hub at the local computer store? Simple as that.

I have used ICS on dialup and it worked just great.
One NIC in both machines and you shouldn't need anymore hardware unless you got more than two pcs then like the others recommended I would get a hub

In the computer with dialup modem and the first NIC I run the ICS wizard then on the second computer I just set the computer to grab an IP from dhcp.

I dont have $20, and I already have 2 hubs and have been connected to them since early 2001 with no hitches... :D But I just cant plug my computer into the hubs, and the other computer immediately grants me access to the internet.

Either I'm not properly explaining my problem (most likely), or you are misunderstanding my problem.

ICS installs and sets up fine on the machine that has the internet. But after ICS is installed on it, It cannot browse the web, or anything else. as a matter of fact the computer doesnt get an IP addy with ICS running. When I try to use the diskette on my computer (created from the setup wizard on the other computer) I get the attached error.

But anywas I installed Proxy and it works... Besides 1 program being a real pain but its written in python. It took forever to download proxy (bout 1 min).

Thanks for reminding me about AnalogX.
