View Full Version : Do I need a dedicated server yet???

I'm running vBulletin forum software with 1200 members and an average of 35-50 users online at a time. Can someone give me a clear answer as to what point a dedicated server is needed? And if so, what to look for in a dedicated server besides bandwidth - because I was told that my SQL usage was too high, not bandwidth. Is it the number of SQL connections that I need to look at when finding a dedicated server?

I've been looking at VenturesOnline, but was wondering if there's a less expensive, yet similar alternative. I can't really go with RackShack because I need support, as I'm not able to setup a server on my own or install all the necessary components to support the software I'll be running. Any suggestions? Also, VO isn't offering new dedicated servers again until June 1st, which is 10 days away. I can't have my forums down for 10 days.

Sounds like it is time to get a dedicated, or at least a semi-dedicated. And keep in mind if you go dedicated it's doubtful your box will be ready to go in less than a few days at least.

You will be best off with a dedicated server.

here is a few places i have had most pleasurable expieriences with while in my ventures to find a new dedicated server they all seem really nice and help full and seem pretty flexible on trying to make you happy as a customer.

I would get a dedicated server, your forums will run considerably faster.

As you mentioned VO, an interesting alternative is their V650 plan...

If you can swing it, absolutely go for a dedicated or a managed dedicated.

Try RackSpace and WebReseller.
