View Full Version : Real affiliate programs
dialuphost 05-23-2002, 01:55 PM Ok guys here is the ultimate question -- we have discussed affiliate programs a lot. But here is my question aside from cj.com what are other affiliate management companies that bring you real signups....on average how many signups do you receive from your affiliate programs....
I already know about shareasale.com and fineclicks.com butI have heard that they dont really bring you much traffic....
Any suggestions would be appreciated
mantra 05-23-2002, 02:18 PM Not sure, but what about Linkshare.com or Reporting.net ?

Our affiliates account for about 1/3rd of our sales. Our goal is to have our affiliates produce 90+% of our sales.
We run our own custom built affiliate software which keeps our costs very low. If you go with a 3rd party provider, sure you have access to more affiliates, but your expenses go up. Plus, it can be difficult to add or change features of your program since you won't have control of it. (For instance, you want to add a new statistics report.)
Hope that helps,
Brian

Our affiliate program was something I created myself. I wrote all the code that makes it work, as well as the database structure, etc. (Its part of our management and automation suite.)
As I said before, I wanted the ability to add and manage things easily within the program. I also wanted the ability to closely tie the affiliate program to our backend systems. So, to me, the most logical decision was to write my own. :-)
Take care,
Brian

Brian,
Tell me though, how do you go about to attract, acquire, and retain your affiliates?

May I ask you how do you pay to your affiliates?
that's the biggest problem that I'm facing to create an affiliate program.

Brain? I know I'm a smart guy, but come on, that's pushing it don't you think. :-)
Paying affiliates is actually pretty simple. Plain old paper check sent in the mail. I use Microsoft Money for our corporate account. And it remembers addresses for payments, so once someone is in the system its trivial to send them the check next month. Just enter them in, tell Money to print, sign and mail.
It also helps that we format the checks so that we can put them in the two window envelopes. Our return address and the affiliates address appear in the windows, so we don't have to print envelopes too.
We also pay be Paypal if requested. But, as yet, no one has requested it.
Brian,

We did an initial campaign last year that attracted almost all of the affiliates we have now. Beyond that, we have a link to our program on our hostings page navigation. So, in a sense, we've done very little to attract our affiliates.
But, we are working on a major campaign to be launched soon to attract even more affiliates. I won't reveal details yet, but keep an eye out here, as we'll no doubt announce it in the appropriate forum. :-)
Take care,
Brian
