Hello,

I am sorry to bring this subject up again.

I have experience with WHM/CPanel, Plesk and Ensim and H-Sphere. I have even installed Plesk and Ensim on my home server so that I can experience with them in my spare time at home.

I have been a network programmer and administrator for about 6 years (mainly socket and database applications) on both unix and windows platforms. (I have started my programming job more than 14 years ago)

My experience with ensim was very good but recently I saw some bugs which may produce critical problems for me as a web host. This worries me if I can manage an Ensim server smootly and maintain a good uptime and service without extensive information on Ensim itself. While I have seen some companies that maintain an excellent service (Matthew from remarkablehosting as an example) I am not sure I can do it with the same quality (Matthew has been with ensim in past so he may have enough information bout ensim's internal structure that helps him to maintain a better service) :D

I have had experience with Plesk on my personal server at home with some problems. (installation and some other problems) It seems most of people say very good things about plesk's security and stability. I have experienced a very good service on a FreeBSD system with intenseinfo.com (it was a reseller account which Joe gave to my brother for free :) ) It had about 100% uptime in about 2 months. Is this because FreeBSD is more stable than Linux? or Plesk is more stable than for example WHM/CPanel?

And finally I have a long experience with CPanel/WHM. The most interesting point about WHM/CPanel is that you have your traditional unix structure of users and websites while Plesk and ensim have made their custom directory, services, users etc. structure for themselves. It has so many features that most of people love it but I am not interested in their monthly license payments. Also it seems to me that WHM/CPanel is very unstable in comparison to Ensim and Plesk but has less critical problems and bugs (Am I right? )

Finally those great people on WHT:

1- Would you please share your decision about control panel. Which one is your first preference for a smooth and quality service?

2- Tell us why you have decided on this contro panel?

3- Results? Have you been able to maintain a good service with that?

I wish I can use experience of those people who have dealt with those control panels for a long time on a serious quality web hosting business.

Best Regards,
Mac

Matt,

I know you are an ensim expert :) so why have you changed your mind?

Tired of bugs or because it has less features or what? It is very useful to hear your opinions?

That is EXACTLY why I like Cpanel. I hate how Ensim and Plesk make up their own proprietary configuration and directory structures. That makes it harder for somebody like me who's used to working with Linux without a control panel to troubleshoot problems. I don't think "very unstable" and "critical problems and bugs" are the right phrases to describe Cpanel. Sure, it has some bugs, but it's not unstable. Cpanel has never caused any stability problems for me, and any critical problems or bugs that do happen to sneak in are usually fixed very quickly.

I choose CPanel.

My experience has been with Alabanza, Cobalt RaQs and Cpanel. Cpanel has decreased our support load at the same time we have gained new customers. There are so many features in Cpanel, the customer does not need to contact us as often as before.

Cpanel has breathed life into our business and I have no plans to change. There are also good security features that help us to find local hackers. It has been fantastic.
