Techark 05-10-2006, 05:22 AM What control panel is it? If cpanel sure ask your new host to do a transfer for you via WHM or you can do a full back up from the cpanel and give it to your new host to install for you. Other control panels are a little more difficult to do but it can be done. tuvi 05-10-2006, 05:58 AM currently have WHM/Cpanel... Are there any issues involved when moving?? I heard that... not 100% guarantee that everything got moved and still intact... firestarter 05-10-2006, 06:10 AM If the upstream providers give a reliable connection to both of the boxes the transfer should be good. Keep the old source server up for a week or so to make sure that if there is a complain from client, you can give them the old data from the old server. Make sure that both the servers have same softwares configured properly. Techark 05-10-2006, 06:43 AM currently have WHM/Cpanel... Are there any issues involved when moving?? I heard that... not 100% guarantee that everything got moved and still intact... If done correctly it should be OK. I have done about 80 full servers and countless number of shared sites that way and have had very few problems. Makes it much easier with root on both boxes but can be done with user name and passwords pretty smooth. tuvi 05-10-2006, 12:39 PM Thanks all... Firestarter is quite correct...keep the old server up and running for week-10 days just to be prudent. webhost4uu.com 05-10-2006, 03:53 PM is simple to do if you have root acess tedious but can be done by using backup with whm without root acess tuvi 05-10-2006, 08:06 PM Should I change DNS (of my main account).... before or after the moving? If I change DNS first.... then the clients won't be able to access their sites until the moving is done.... But if I change DNS after... the clients will access the wrong sites.. before the propagation is complete... Hmmm.... seem like I have to change DNS first... cartika-andrew 05-10-2006, 09:09 PM currently have WHM/Cpanel... Are there any issues involved when moving?? You can also use the cpanel backups to migrate to an hsphere host (if they have upgraded to the latest version of hsphere) BeYourOwnWebHost 05-11-2006, 09:17 AM Is is possible to move all my client accounts with all their databases and emails intact to another host? This is very easy with Cpanel just ask your new host to do it for you. You only need to give your new host the cpanel usernames and passwords of the accounts you want to move. Jedito 05-11-2006, 10:47 AM You can do your backup from your Cpanel right now, upload the backup file to your new host, and then request them to restore your account from that file. PremiumHost 05-11-2006, 11:03 AM Root access in Cpanel can transfer accounts between servers. Successful rate is 99.9%. There maybe some errors here and there but just take 5 seconds to fix. Also remember to reduce the TTL in dns entry for faster propagation. gate2vn 05-11-2006, 11:52 AM Should I change DNS (of my main account).... before or after the moving? You can change the second name server first, let it run in several days for full updating. Then copy data over, and update the first name server edu4vision 05-11-2006, 02:42 PM Btw, please tell me it is true... can we move a wordpress blog from one host to another host with all the file & databse intact? Just make sure you move all files and the database. The open up the php file which defines the DB connection settings and change those settings to match your new host. cartika-andrew 05-11-2006, 03:18 PM Or better, can anybody do this for me? I know how to transfer the files, but how to move database? :lovewht: Well do u have shell access on ur machine and are both machine old and new cpanel based machines? Edit: oh i didnt see ur reseller so no ssh access for u. Well best thing would be to ask ur clients for their passwords and doing sql backups of their sites mannually or ask them to do it themselves. See herer is simple sql backup method i made for my clients to follow when i had to move to another location : http://forums.a1whs.com/viewtopic.php?t=13 edu4vision 05-11-2006, 04:26 PM I dont have shell access, and yes, both use cpanel. thanks Aussie Bob 05-12-2006, 12:53 AM Are there any issues involved when moving?? I heard that... not 100% guarantee that everything got moved and still intact... We've had better success with the client uploading full cpanel backups, and us restoring them, than using cpanel's server to server transfer function. Of course, this is reliant on the server you're transferring from, and lately it's been like escaping a battlezone, so that makes transfers all the more difficult. Migrations should be carefully planned, and carefully executed. Gradual migrations are best, imo, rather the all in one hit approach. Root to root transfers are great for the all in one hit approach. DaKine 05-13-2006, 01:09 PM I have a newbie question here so please put up with my not understanding. I need to move my web hosting account to a new reseller. I have decided which one to use. I have read and re-read this thread and I am a little confused. The terms cPanel and WHM have been thrown back and forth here. Is there a way to backup my entire account (including customer accounts) through WHM (not through cPanel)? It would be nice if I could back up everything all at once for all of my customers without needing to get their usernames and passwords for each separate account and have to log in to cPanel for each account and back up each account separately. For instance, one poster stated: "is simple to do if you have root acess tedious but can be done by using backup with whm without root acess" If this is true how do I do it? I have combed my WHM panel and I have not yet found a way to backup my account(s). Your patience is appreciated. Any suggestions is appreciated as well. gate2vn 05-13-2006, 04:15 PM 1. You dont need to ask your customers' passwords. You can use their usernames with your passwords, to login their cPanel. 2. You cannot do backup all in one :) Needs to be done seperately in cPanel, not WHM 3. You can ask your new host to copy your data over, if they have root access to their server DaKine 05-13-2006, 05:15 PM You dont need to ask your customers' passwords. You can ask your new host to copy your data over, if they have root access to their server I am sure they do. Thanks again! tuvi 05-13-2006, 05:35 PM You can change the second name server first, let it run in several days for full updating.
