Ok i want to move servers from a plesk server to another plesk server i know you can backup your plesk information and move to another server so thats what i plan to do.

please tell me if what i have below is right.

1.) kill http on server
2.) do plesk backup
3.) move backup files to new server and install
4.) setup dns to be exactly like it was on old server such as ns1.zdwebhosting.com ns2.zdwebhosting.com
5.) goto old server and point in the dns template remove it all and add it all back in but instead of its ip put in the ip of my new server so it would go from client>oldserver>new server
6.) goto godaddy.com and edit the ip's for ns1.zdwebhosting.com ns2.zdwebhosting.com and it should all be up except for the 3 hours - 5 hours to backup and transfer files

will that work and then how long until it fully propogates since its just the ip and not the name thats updating

let me know if this will work as i have never heard anything about it.

roly : you have done this correct or are you just assuming? i need somone who has indeed done this exact thing so i can backup like that

another question how will i transfer the files to the new server if i leave apacche off?

because its like 6-10 gigs of backup so i figure 30 mins thats still alot of time for some of the forums i host to get back fired up with posts

hum

i have not tried it but i **assume** it will work with the following changes

don't backup the entier plesk, backup the old customer db and import it into a new plesk install

(i have not tried it because i have not used Plesk)

plesk has a backup utility that backs up client info , all files and all databases

basicly the steps are

1.) kill http on server
2.) do plesk backup
3.) install plesk and restore backup
4.) setup dns to be exactly like it was on old server such as ns1.zdwebhosting.com ns2.zdwebhosting.com
5.) goto old server and point in the dns template remove it all and add it all back in but instead of its ip put in the ip of my new server so it would go from client>oldserver>new server
6.) goto godaddy.com and edit the ip's for ns1.zdwebhosting.com ns2.zdwebhosting.com and it should all be up except for the 3 hours - 5 hours to backup and transfer files

We recently did a Plesk to Plesk server move. However we got someone to do this for us, you can try sending a PM to tmpuser and asking for help.

I highly recommend this guy, he moved our server with ZERO downtime :) The move took less than 2 hours and after that time all clients were able to access their ftp and cp on the new server!

What if I want to move just one client account from a Plesk server to another Plesk server? Which files should I backup (in the old server) and restore (in the new server)?

I want to keep the site and mail configuration in the moved account.

Thanks in advance!

not sure if you can do just 1 account due to plesk has to backup all the client information that is inserted into the controle panel

but other than that just move /usr/local/psa/home/vhosts/domain.com

and /usr/local/psa/mysql/var/name

but i dont know

Where are the mail information (username/password) stored in Plesk? I found this directory: /usr/local/psa/qmail/mailnames but it only stores the mailbox info, not the login info.
