View Full Version : Attracting Customers?
zzzBrett 05-09-2006, 04:08 PM Hi,
I am looking into starting a reseller account and hosting sites. Once I buy the resller account, what is the best / quickest way to attract customers? What has worked for you already-established web hosts?
Thanks,
Brett
GP-JT 05-09-2006, 05:00 PM I doubt people are going to give away their secrets. Did you try searching here? This topic has been brought up a lot.
BF-Gary 05-09-2006, 05:38 PM The best way is by word of mouth.
Do you provide something nobody else does?
If not figure that out first.

To put it simply, get out and meet people. The best way to build a loyal client-base is to meetup with other business owners directly and form alliances. Offering a web design component greatly increases your chances. There's no quick and easy way. It takes time!
CMarketing 05-09-2006, 07:25 PM Use web hosting directories, hosting quote sites, web master resurces, etc. You will need to advertise. Also, check out and use all the free resource you can.
steven-v 05-09-2006, 08:17 PM You should throw a party in local university and tell students to recommend your internet services to their friends and parents (new approach to Word of the Mouth) - Its does working for me very well.
I promise to throw them another one every 3 months - they are very motivated now ;)
kris1351 05-10-2006, 02:31 AM If you search here on this you will literally find hundreds of threads with lots of information and lots of suggestions. There is no one way, research!

GnomeyNewt 05-10-2006, 03:09 AM Localization -- I find that people who do not know much about the Internet prefer to go with companies that are located near them. Also it's easier to meet local companies that need hosting, such local shops, state/city fairs, farmers markets, etc, just hand them a business card! I got a lot of business this way.
etechsupport2 05-10-2006, 06:10 AM You need to create good contacts and come out with a decent plan adding some specialized service/features. I would suggest to target your local market first.
f9-Alex 05-10-2006, 08:27 AM Spend money on a competent ad campaign, geared specifically to your target audience.
Jelleuh 05-10-2006, 03:15 PM Google has an advertising programme called "Google adwords". Maybe you can start with that, but don't forget it's not free :D

For something like hosting... well its not going to be exactly cheap if you want good exposure...
Jelleuh 05-11-2006, 09:01 AM Indeed, but you can set your own limit you like to spend, that way you don't get surprises at the end of the month.
BeYourOwnWebHost 05-11-2006, 09:29 AM Start with word of mouth, then ezine advertising, google adwords, but that depends on how much you want to spend on advertising.
zzzBrett 05-11-2006, 04:51 PM Thanks for all of the replies and tips. I appreciate it.

detox host 05-12-2006, 07:37 AM Word of mouth generally can be a great asset.
If you want good results from advertising. be prepared to invest.
It can become quite expensive, but if it pays off its worth it.
