This may sound like a strange question, but I was wondering what kind of extra load the popular CP software (ie: Emsim) puts on a server. I have a choice now between getting a basic linux server, and one with a CP. I'm no Linux guru, though I could probably manage with some hand holding by my host with a box without CP. Of course a CP would make life easier, and worthwhile if the extra load is minute.
Thanks

That depends on the Control Panel. H-Sphere does put a lot of stress on the server (we actually have a server in our cluster dedicated to serving the control panel). I'm not certain about Ensim, perhaps someone else can provide more information...
Personally, if you aren't hosting clients, you'd be better off not using a control panel to gain some experience :D

I agree. Using something like Webmin won't put hardly any stress on a server. When you start getting into cp's that use a lot of graphics and BW alone then that starts a strain. I would suggest not using a control panel if you aren't serving clients. Or use something such as Webmin.
Thanks
